Kmart "Giffing Out" - Christmas Commercial 2013 - YouTube

And shit....

from Wikipee:

The creators of the format pronounced GIF as "jif" with a soft "G" /ˈdʒɪf/ as in "gin". Steve Wilhite says that the intended pronunciation deliberately echoes the American peanut butter brand, Jif, and CompuServe employees would often say "Choosy developers choose GIF", spoofing this brand's television commercials.

The American Heritage Dictionary cites both, acknowledging "jif" as the primary pronunciation.... The New Oxford American Dictionary gives only "jif" in its 2nd edition but updated it to "jif, gif" in its 3rd edition.

The disagreement over the pronunciation led to heated Internet debate. On the occasion of receiving a lifetime achievement award at the 2013 Webby Award ceremony, Wilhite rejected all of the alternatives .

If the originators of the format spelled it "G I F" but pronounced it as "tits"... it is their's to call whatever they want.

Ok, so it's "Jif", but it's also "Gig-abyte"... and not "Jig-abyte"

You know what, me and Chi-Chi Rodriguez (that's Chai-Chai Rod-ri-gweez) will just keep saying "Gif"...

There is precedent for that.

In Texas, our state road agency TXDOT is refered to as Texdot, not the Texas dee oh tee. We do use dee oh tee to reference the federal DOT, though.
