If Carfax shows that the accident was minor, maybe.

We pull a history report before we put an appraised value on every trade in.

My 05 Frontier had to have the frame replaced due to an accident. When I traded it in they ran a carfax for their protection. It showed up, and whoever they sold it to it had to be disclosed by FL law. Minor damage I'm not sure about.

So if it shows an accident you put less in it?

Yup. On the idea that if a customer asks to see it, they'll expect to pay less.

I say yes on the condition that I see a photo or the repair bill. A ding on the door or a minor fender bender isn't an issue. If I see replaced air bags or parts for the suspension, no way.

Whether I'd buy a car with an accident reported on Carfax depends on the current condition of the car, the price and whether I intend to trade it in at a dealer later.

I dated a female car salesman (Saleswoman?) briefly years ago. According to her, even new cars get dinged up and repaired prior to a sale as a "New" car.

Can any of you car people confirm/deny such things happen?

She was probably just trying to get in my pants,,,

Depends entirely on the extent of the damage. If they can show that it was minor, then no big deal. A receipt would really be nice to have.

Of course that happens. Mostly damaged in shipping. If the damage exceeds a certain amount, though, it must be disclosed to the buyer.

We always did, but Carfax can miss too. I remember taking a Volvo V90 in trade years ago- clean carfax and title. Had some electrical issues with the rear tail lights. Used Car mangler told the techs- "put it up on the rack- there's only one reason it'd have electrical problems like that." Sure enough, repaired damage was easy to spot underneath, and it was significant. Off to auction it went.

It's only just a Volvo, so what the hell, solder the wire and get over it already...
