After our rain this weekend, coming home from work I decided to use my windshield washer for the first time. Does not work - I did not hear a pumping noise when I pushed the lever towards the instrument panel display. I have a 96. The reservoir is filled with water. Lines look good. Looked for a fuse but did not see one for the washer pump. The wiper motor works fine at all speeds. Any idea what to look for or any other troubleshooting tips?

Dirt buildup at the tip of the nozzle, take the line off and using your own lung power blow them out. If that doesn't do it then use compressed air but at a low pressure. If that doesn't do it then it's time to check out the pump itself.

Check the windshield washer check valve/tee, too. It can get gummed up with debris, too.

Before you take the nozzle apart, try gently pushing a small pin in the hole, if it works then, you know where the problem is. I have done this before on other cars and did not have to take it apart. For some reason that did the trick.

If it was stopped up, you would still hear the pumping noise. Have you checked for continuity at the motor?

I hear nothing from the motor, so it must be the pump located below the reservoir. I haven't checked it yet, but most of the guys I talked to that own Chevy's say its the small plastic pump.

Check for continuity and make sure you have power to it before you go pulling and trashing. You know these cars wiring is brittle after 15-20 years.
