I had no idea the MiG 21 was still being flown in the numbers it is... when they came out cars had big tailfins and Buddy Holly was still alive.

Once upon a time, I was at Rhein-Mein in Frankfurt. It shared the runway with the Frankfurt civilian airport. I was talking with a fella from the civilian side one day. He related the story of an Afghan aircraft that was impounded. The reason was, basically, a laundry list of maintenance issues. He further stated he went inside the a/c and said the thing stunk and the even the headrests needed an oil change.
