The list of governors who are either pausing or altogether halting acceptance of Syrian refugees into their states following Friday’s terror attacks in Paris continues to grow. And fast. These are the States so far:
http://i63.tinypic.com/w83ku1.jpg
Though the list is largely made up of Republican governors, New Hampshire’s governor Maggie Hassan is a notable exception.
The Chicago Tribune reports on one of today’s recent additions, President Obama’s home state of Illinois.
So far, at least one governor is following suit with Obama– Democrat Gov. Dannel Malloy of Connecticut, who downplayed any security threat from incoming refugees, describing them as “a small number” and added they were, “a number over which you could do a lot of security background checks and that sort of thing.”
I guess Gov. Malloy missed the admission from our own FBI that there’s really no way to screen “refugees” coming from Syria. Just last month, FBI head James Comey testified before Congress acknowledging it was not possible for the U.S. to properly vet the Syrian refugees because there are no data points that would show the past activity of the vast majority of Syrians.

If The Governor wants to be re-elected, he'll not allow the "refugees". Although Atlanta is a big City, obviously the rest of the State isn't as liberal. I'm sure the Governor realizes he wasn't elected by Atlanta voters.

And it's even more baffling since Manchester NH took in a great number of Somalis and they have failed assimilate and have caused major issues for the police in Manchester.
The problem is this is merely feel good talk. Unless the governors plan a Little Rock style confrontation using the states' National Guard troops to physically block the refugees from entering the states, I don't see what practical protections this provide the citizens of those states.
We had a pretty horrific case of murder a few months ago, a cop was executed at a gas station, shot from behind, multiple times. This happened in a nice part of the suburbs. Turns out, the shooter and his mother lived in a Section 8 house....right there in the suburb. Uncle Sam will use his force and our money to put undesirables wherever he wants, governors and citizens' opinions be damned.

I agree with you only on legalities. Yes, the Supremacy Clause of the Constitution overrides the States' powers to prevent enforcement of Federal laws. But I'm betting that Obama won't risk a National Guard type of confrontation for the following reasons:
One, he has only a year left in power. Any actual confrontation will be several months away, and I don't think Obama is willing to tarnish his legacy by leaving the Nation at war against itself.
Two, your point about no one having control over where the "refugees" settle after gaining admittance to this Country only supports the position of the resisting States: While a citizen may support Obama on humanitarian grounds, I doubt that the citizen wants the refugees in his neighborhood. The NIMBY syndrome, in other words.
Three, the Democrats running for President will be furious if they have to tow the Party line in favor of admittance of these "refugees": They'll look like Republicans if they side with the States in opposition to admittance.
Four, this issue gives the Republicans a lot of credibility in opposing the liberals. Obama's policy of admitting these "refugees" is hard to accept by most people and has, IMO, a tenuous following even among liberals. I can't believe that the electorate will be won by a liberal if the key issue is the admittance of these "refugees"
My predictions will be off the mark perhaps if there is no ISIS attack here in the coming year, which would be the smart thing for them to do in order to get a Democrat President elected. If they can't resist an attack, then it's a Republican shoo-in.
I don't think Obama is willing to tarnish his legacy by leaving the Nation at war against itself.
Too late!
My Mom lives in a nice neighborhood that, in combination with a few other nearby neighborhoods and a golf course, are becoming like Fort Apache, the Bronx....surrounded by up and coming "diverse" (read: ghetto] neighborhoods. There are at least 2 mosques within a 2 mile radius of her subdivision. As if this was not enough, our Uncle Sam has insisted on putting up "affordable housing" (read: Section 8 crime zone apartments), also within a 2 mile radius of her subdivision. The subdivisions got together and lobbied their Congress critters, but to no avail. I'm quite sure Uncle Hobama took delight in bringing more of his voters to very close proximity with those neighborhoods. And there was nothing our Congress critters could do about it. This will be the way our new Syrian neighbors will be distributed. We won't get to consent to where they are placed, but you can be sure we will be taxed to place them, house them, feed them, etc. Maybe we will catch a break, though, and Saudi Arabia will build their mosques for them, instead of putting that on the US taxpayers' tab, too.

In a perfect world, I'd agree with you. But here's the rub: The people who have come out of Syria have proven time and again that there are no such things as "reasonable understandings" and "mutual agreements". And too many innocent people have paid with their lives because we continue to overlook these warning signs. I think most people have grown tired of the "women and children" nonsense as an excuse for turning a blind eye to what will eventually cause more harm.
In other words, go refugee somewhere else.
Better still, cause a revolution and overthrow the Assad regime that foments this kind of idiocy. But that would mean standing up and fighting, which we all know these people don't know how to do.

And here is the problem with that - when we support the overthrow and cessation of the dictatorships, something worse seems to grow. We need to keep our political hands out of other peoples pots. Iraq and Hussein was a fine example, he kept those people in line and we didn't hear crap from anyone over there. Same with Qaddafi....but when we support the people that want a change of command, then we are also agreeing that we have 50 years of support before, what we hope, the change of thought processes become the norm in those areas.
Sadly, I don't think it will become the norm - and we have only opened the door to paying off people that want nothing more than to kill us.

Like Reagan said to his new campaign manager in 1979, when asked what his official position on the Cold War was going to be. Reagan said "We win, they lose. What do you think of that?" That was actually an unheard of response back then, the mainstream left/right response was various modes of coexistence and containment with the Soviets.

And this is how they should respond.
To be clear, states still retain the power to deny their own resources to the federal government, so they could potentially make settlement of refugees more difficult than it would be if the states cooperated. Nevertheless, an act of Congress — the Refugee Act of 1980 — has given Obama broad discretion to allow refugees to be admitted into the United States. The states of Texas, Louisiana and others must yield to that act.
It's a heartbreaking story. I know you'll feel it so be prepared.

As I understand it, the governors' publicly opposing this thing is pointless grandstanding, it's unproductive nonsense; which maybe is the appropriate response to this pointless, grandstanding President.
I'm not all that opposed to taking in some of these refugees, especially since Obama's foreign policy (facilitated by Billary Clinton) helped destroy their country. The difference in this case is that, in the past they spent their vetting period in camps on their side of the ocean; his plan appears to be to bring them here, then vet them. If that is not his plan, then maybe he should tell us that, rather than deride our opposition with smug disdain. I don't know if he has that in him (I doubt it), but it seems reasonable.
