View Full Version : Anthony Bourdain eats at Waffle House...

Anthony Bourdain's culinary travels have taken him to every corner of the world. But somewhere in between jetting off to Namibia and Laos, he never passed beneath the glowing yellow awnings of a Waffle House.
That changed on a recent episode of Bourdain's CNN series Parts Unknown, where he paid a late-night visit to a Charleston outpost of the humble-yet-iconic Southern chain with fellow chef Sean Brock.
Bourdain is slightly baffled by the whole affair, until he starts eating the pecan waffles, slathered in butter and maple syrup, that Brock insisted they order.
Consider him officially converted:

Nice find, Spence. Having spent some time in Charleston, I'll say there's some damn good food there. I'll also say I had a bunch of fun with folks that enjoy a fun time. :seasix::D

At least he doesn't have to ask what it's made from. Some stuff I've seen him eat makes me wonder how he lives to see the next sun rise.:shots:

He uses my "secret": Drink before you eat.

I realized I had a weight problem when I found I wasn't able to eat at a Waffle House... I can't fit in any of the seats.

Bourdain wouldn't know good food if it stood up and barked in his face. This is a perfect example of that. :skia:

On Sunday at 0200 and drunk, that's very debatable. :D

Actually, it is a double order scattered, smothered, double chunked, double covered with two eggs up. That'll put some lead in your pencil. . .

Being asked to leave is actually not in the Waffle House rule book. Those people are professionals! I make no bones about it, I love the WH. Hell, I might go there this morning. To all you naysayers, go overseas with no WH for a while. By the time you get back, you will be ready to kick someone's ass for some smothered, covered, chunked, and diced hash browns and a bowl of grits swimming in butter!:yesnod:

I use to live down the street from one.. twice.
Both times it was within walking distance.
Kinda got burned out on it, but now that you mention it and time has passed.
I could sure go for some now.. :seasix:

We don't have any Waffle House restaurants around here (Kansas). The first time I tried them was in Bowling Green (one located by the Hampton Inn). I thought it was pretty good.
The White Castle gut bombs I had while there, were good, but I paid the price for eating all that grease.

I was once in Marietta, Ga and lunch time came. A coupla folks were talking about how they enjoyed Krystals and invited me to try it with them. It was one of the worst things I've ever eaten. I gave my friends the stink eye and said never again. This is also coming from someone that's eaten strange shit around the world.

See, there's your problem Johnny. You ate them at lunch time. Those are only to be eaten at 2:00 AM or after.

You don't like Krystal's???? WTFO Johnny? That's almost as bad as the Pope sayin' he don't like Catholics.:D Anyway, who needs laxatives when you have Krystal right around the corner with their deliciously greasy little buns, with onions, and something that resembles a meat patty on it. And don't forget their chilli cheese fries. :seasix: For those of you that don't know, Krystal is the southern version of White Castle. Yes folks....sliders!!!!:cert:

I had been in Waffle House a number of times in the past. Each time I was drunk so I had no real memories of the place or the food. Then a couple of years ago I went to a cruise in with my vette and there was a Waffle house there. I went in and realized this is the first time I had been in one sober. Was hungry so I got a burger and fries. It wasn't bad and I didn't get sick.:cert:
