Went up to Fry's electronics to blow some money and they had a Xoom on display.

(spoiler: I didn't blow money on the Xoom).

Looks nice, feels solid, like the iPad. The OS looked nice and futuristic, like one of those fake OS's they always have on computer systems in the movies. The screen animations were a bit jerky, like only 12-15 frames per second. Just didn't look smooth. I bet Android 3 will be really sweet when it's finished.

Meanwhile I guess I'll wait to see what teh iPad 2 has in store next week.:dance:

What's a xoom?

Newfangled tablet thingy. You can do your internets on it.

Once the pricing and contract requirements came out, I predicted fail for that thing.

yeah, when I picked it up, it just didn't feel like I was holding 800 bucks.

The lack of a Wi-Fi only version at launch is gonna kill it.

As competitors go;

A Feb. 1 reports states that 16% of Galaxy Tab buyers have returned them within the 30 day trial period. On release, the initial contract was 2 years. A recent release said that one service provider is going to require only a 1 month contract.

I'm going to be in the market for one of these newfangled pads this year. A bunch are coming out this year. Looking for something in a smaller profile, 7" -8" screen range.
