Damn, where is that varmint when you want him? I've got a Honda mower and I can't find any drain on the motor to change the oil. No plug....anywhere, i even checked under the deck! Nope, nada. I was ready to turn it over on it's side and drain it out the fill tube. :toetap:
anyone else know? :bigears:

It has to be drained trough the fill tube. Turn the mower on its side.

Cancel that call......Honda in it's wisdom has NOT put a plug and instead you have to tip the mower over to drain it, from, you guessed it......the fill tube! :toetap::doh:
thanks to utube.

Interesting
Late this summer I bought a new Troy Built mower that has a Honda motor
I hadn't even looked at how to drain the oil yet. Will have to check in the AM

My Ariens mower has a drain plug under the deck, but the owners manual recommends draining the oil by tipping it up on the side and draining from the fill spout. It is pretty easy to do that way.

It's a first for me. every small engine i've ever had, had a damn drain plug. Sure, it's not hard to tip it on it's side....IF you drain the gas tank first. :toetap:.....otherwise if the tank is even half full you dump gas all over. It's just stupid not to have a drain on a motor.:issues:
The gas will help you clean up the oil stain on the driveway you are going to make when you tilt the mower on its side. Japanese=smart

I discovered that fact as well this year. First time buying non-USA mower
and brand new Honda. How backward!
BTW, don't ever tip it on the carburetor side-oil leaks out and fills the air filter..
so sez the Honda manual.....

12 years ive done this professionally and I have yet to use a drain plug on a push mower lol.
I slide a pan under...tip it over...loosen and slip of the dipstick..while it drains i put on a blade...put in the plug and do the air filter as the filter will be pointing up.
Set it back down..add 20oz of oil and serviced...
Takes about 5 minutes tops...quick 25 plus parts

Thanks Red....where ya been hiding? :(
Some utubes say 12.5 ounces, and some say 18? i think I'll just fill it using the dip stick after 15-16. Do you drain the gas tank first?

Yep, had my Honda for almost 20 years, just make sure it is low on gas, remove the dipstick, and tip it on its side over a drain pan

Red.....the little aluminum cover on the front of the motor was over tightened and leaking oil, and my idiot brother REALLY tightened it so it leaked even more. I took it off, cleaned it, and straightened it. New RTV gold (there's no gasket or o-ring) and put it back together. Fingers' crossed, waiting for it to cure. Should work if I straightened it right. Is that an expensive part or hard to get? thanks Red.
