Obama Bans Pork from Prisons, CAIR Praises Decision

By Greg Richter | Sunday, 11 Oct 2015 11:59 AM

The federal Bureau of Prisons has banned pork products from being served in the 122 prisons it runs nationwide, The Washington Post reports.

The ban started with the new fiscal year, which began October 1, and is attributed by the bureau to prisoners not liking pork. Surveys over recent years have found prisoners like pork least of all meats, and it is too costly, prison bureau spokesman Edmond Ross told the Post.

The National Pork Producers Council was skeptical.

"I find it hard to believe that a survey would have found a majority of any population saying, 'No thanks, I don’t want any bacon,'" Dave Warner, a spokesman for the group, said.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations praised the move.

"In general we welcome the change because it’s facilitating the accommodation of Muslim inmates," CAIR spokesman Ibrahim Hooper said. "We hope it's not an indication of an increasing number of Muslims in the prison system."

Non-pork options have long been available to observant Jews and Muslims, who can't eat pork products for religious reasons.

The nation's 206,000 federal prisoners still can buy packaged pork rinds and pre-cooked bacon in the prison commissary.

They attribute this to lack of popularity of pork in prisoner polls. What is the correlation between that and the increase in Muslims as a percentage of the prison population?

Prisoners can suck my Redneck ass as far as I am concerned. By violating other's civil rights they have abandoned theirs in my opinion. Pork is a less expensive alternative protein versus either chicken or beef where I live. Let them eat healthy, lean and cheap protein. Those inmates with religious or vegetarian exemptions already have alternative menus... feck the rest of them.

This is the same administration that told us if you liked your health insurance and doctor you can keep them.

I'd like to see the raw polling data from the prisoners.

This is America.
THIS is prison fare.
You're here because of YOU.
Take it or leave it.

Simple, really.

A couple of years ago I had to price a kosher section into a kitchen for a prison we were building for ICE; it was located in Southern California. It kind of cracked me up, how many practicing Jewish Mexicans did they think they were going to house there for deportation?

First....they're lucky to get fed period! Second, I would make up a slop of anything that was dirt cheap and they'd never know what was in it, and no one would ever tell them either. don't want to eat it.....good, don't eat it. :slap:

Maybe if they weren't so happy in there they wouldn't want to come back. :toetap:

I would be happy if it was because every muzzie was behind bars. Of course then I would want all three meals to be pork...or nothing.

The critical part of the entire story is use of a "ban". A request to serve non-pork meals is more inline with a prisoner's possible consensus (not that they should have any say). A ban is an unnecessary measure unless you are protecting someone.

Now that pork is banned, they should cook bacon in federal prisons but not serve it, that way they know what Obama has done to them.

Kerrmudgeon
10-12-2015, 5:57am
So that means that anyone who goes to prison will NEVER get bacon while he's in there. Man, talk about cruel and unusual punishment. :willy: .....

That alone should be enough of a deterrent to put an end to crime. :(

Give them bread and water.
There's thousands of school children that go hungry every day. Feed them.

I really doubt any American school children go hungry. They get free breakfast, free lunch, and in Houston, they also get a bag of food sent home on Fridays. HISD also has "Summer feeding programs," where any kid can just show up to the local school and eat free....all paid for by you, the taxpayer. That doesn't include food stamps, BTW, which are in addition to all that, not instead of.

:iagree:

I have serious doubts that it is true, its clearly Bullshit...

First off, it's cheaper than beef that they still serve.. if they were just trying to save money, then why not just remove beef from the menu.

Also a lot of horse meat gets served to prison inmates.. :yesnod: why is no one complaining about this? :island14:

Many Prison systems have their own farms using minimum security inmates that raise pigs and cattle to save money.

Cost of Pork, and inmates not wanting it is not the true issue here..

It's not hard to see through the agenda here..

I see groups of inmates forming religious sects...House of Ham, Church of the Crispy Bacon, etc and then demanding their dietary needs be met.

Insulting someone in the free society is one thing. Those insulted can disassociate themselves from it. Insulting prisoners is a different thing altogether. They cannot not disassociate themselves. They are looked up. It just seems cruel to me in that they are forced to accept that humiliation.

There are lots and lots of Black muslims in our prison system. The conversion is huge. They are offended just like what we think of Muslims in general. While they are prisoners, the should be given the respect of a human being.

Just my humble opinion

Respectfully disagree. EVERY prisoner is in prison by CHOICE. They deserve whatever the system has to offer, and have the right to refuse what is being offered. Aside from that, they should have no rights other than to breath and in many cases, that too is subject to circumstance.

Further, I respectfully disagree. They did not choose to be there. They chose to commit an act and in doing so, got sent there in accordance with society's law. That should be punishment enough in my opinion.

When you CHOOSE to break the law, you also CHOOSE the repercussions. They are NOT mutually exclusive.

This is not "county lock up" these are FEDERAL offenders. I have ZERO. NADA, ZIP, sympathy for prisoners. NONE. Don't be a f%$#-up and you won't have to worry about the prison menu.

No, going there is NOT punishment enough. To say that means they could potentially have king sized beds, maid service, free cable and Wi-Fi, in cell cook service and daily massages but based purely on the fact that they can't leave, that is sufficient punishment for killing someone? Nope. Add to that the fact that we all know it is muslims we are talking about that were the driving force, and my sympathy begins to go into negative numbers.

I'm ok with Muslims not wanting to eat pork, and I see they have alternative meal choices..

But to make everyone else not eat pork because it might offend someone, prisoner or no prisoner is STUPID!

Whats next, should they ban everyone from eating beef because some Hindus are offended by it? :island14:

I bet of you asked them all to vote on what food to ban, most would ask for horse meat to be taken off of the menu..

No one cares what the inmates eat.. to me it pisses me off that they are trying to push off the Muslim agenda.

Lets be honest, if it was only about saving money they would cut out beef menu instead.. :yesnod:
