I am considering trading in my 99 Chrysler sebring jxi convertible for a new car and I would like to know what vehicles to stay away from? Also I am curious to know what mechanical issues I need to fix. The car has 13400 miles, it needs the radiator fan replaced, two speeds, none and high. It also has no heat or air. The air is due to the radiator fan. The motor leaks, interior the leather seats is busted, exterior paint coming off. Should I trade car as is or fix mechanical problems?

You'll get no return on the cost of repairs. Leave it as is and trade it.

I heard mention of a bumper to bumper warranty what exactly does that mean. This is my first time considering buying new. I have bought used and ended up pouring money into them. The Chrysler listed above is a prime example. I am trying to actually save myself money in long-term

How do I get to that from taptalkI don't believe you can...You can view your forum profile in Tapatalk by selecting the menu icon at top right, then tapping on your username. That displays it, but doesn't seem you can edit it.
No one should be telling you what personal info you must disclose anyways, that is optional, so don't worry about it. "Him knowing you" is certainly not a prerequisite to participating here.

Welcome to the Barn, and as for your question, that's a tough call. If you plan to trade it in, then definitely don't put any money into it, the difference in value between "great" and "fair" is probably insignificant.

Buying the new car, DON'T buy the extended warranty when you buy the car. You can usually purchase that anytime while the car is still in it's factory warranty period (typically at least 3 years/36k miles). You have all that time to decide if you want to extend it or not. Those extended warranties can also be found cheaper via the internet than what the dealer will try selling it to you for. That is a huge moneymaker item for them, and they will push it hard, but don't do it.

Bumper to bumper means pretty much everything on the car is covered (except for normal wear items like tires/brakes). That term is usually used as opposed to a powertrain warranty, which would cover engine/transmission only, and exclude other things like electrical items.

my wife had a Chrysler sebring convertible; a 1997????

she really liked the car; very reasonably priced for a vert with electric retractable top. She had a difficult time finding a replacement, due to most other cars in that price range being a lot smaller on the inside. The Sebrings interior was r-o-o-m-y.

If it were me, I'd just shoot it. It's sprung it's spring and flung it's fling.

Serious, +1 for trade as is. Do not repeat as a Dodge/Chrysler buyer. Buy Honda/Toyota/Nissan...maybe even Ford depending on model.

Dump it as is
You will not get anything back for repairs at this point
BTW, I assume you meant to say the mileage was 134000 not 13400...even Chrysler products don't go so far downhill that fast :willy:

It just could be false, however, time will definitely tell. Until then, a little fun never hurt.

I live 6 miles from work and 30 minutes from any town. I also have a volkswagen jetta which is out of commission so to speak. Right now I am driving the sebring and to be honest it is not in the best of condition.

Yeah it did lol. I was actually trying to sell the sebring when the volkswagen left me on the side of a 4 lane highway. I had just put the sebring in the shop to replace the ball joint and it had just gotten ready for me to come get. I was towed to the mechanic to pick up the sebring. This car has been nothing short of an adventure the tire fell off rock kicked up and broke the back glass of the convertible top.i need a reliable vehicle that's not in love with the mechanic shop.

I suggest you look at the Nissans. We've had 7 so far and they've been reliable and affordable. If you drive less than 12k a year a lease may be an option.

The Kia's and Hyundai's have great warranties.

The new Kia's are quite nice and well built. My mom bought the Kia Cadenza, it's a bit high end but its a $40k car that competes with $60k Lexus and such. She did by the extended warranty but her car is covered bumper to bumper for 10 years 100k miles. Also all maintenance. She's 70 so we have piece of mind she'll never have to worry about a car repair (the thing is slam full of electronics and such which will be costly if they break).

Of course they have cheaper models, but they back them well.

A lease is where you make payments and can only put so many miles on the vehicle how long does a typical lease last?

2 to 5 years.

Normal milage is 12k. If you drive more you can pay more but the depreciation is the killer.

It all depends on you and your needs.

Buy Honda/Toyota[/B]/Nissan...maybe even Ford depending on model.

Honda and Toyota are your best bet.

I wouldn't touch a Nissan they are the Dodge/Chrysler of the Japanese car makers. I would also stay away from Korean brands.

Subaru might be a good option if your looking for AWD.
