I have a Honda EB5000 generator that I'm selling. I went to start it today and it ran for a few seconds then died. I smelled gas and it wasn't me.

Looked down, W.T.F. The housing that goes over the carb float fell off. The part with the valve on it.

For the life of me, I can't figure out what held it on. I see the gasket. I see where it goes. But WTF holds it on?

I'm betting a part fell off or a screw fell out and disappeared. Or I'm losing my mind. 50/50.

Don't see how it works here either. Damn Japanese mysterious mofos.

I think this shows what you're missing at the bottom of the illustration..

Edit: Not the same carb after looking more.. only one I have for these.

Should be a screw in the bottom center to hold the cover on. Doesn't the cover have a hole in the center?

And hey, if you can't figure it out, you can always list the generator as "ran when parked."

Good luck getting it going. I guess I need to get mine running. I let the old gas sit in it, so I'm sure the carb is gunked up. Yay, ethanol!

I removed the air cleaner manifold to get a better view but still perplexed.

There is absolutely no hole for a screw or any sort of vertical fastener.

Make a gasket out of JB Weld. Seriously, though, maybe try making a gasket out of RTV sealant? Maybe that will stick together long enough to get it running and sold?

Number 7 in your parts diagram has broken in half. It doubles as both a bolt, and the main jet. You need to easy out the part in the carb body and get a new bolt.

These generators have a solenoid that when the engine spins over power is made and that power pulls that valve open and fuel flows. The solenoid has effectively broken off in the carb...12 years ive never seen nor heard of such a thing happening.

Gonna have to remove those screws and find the threaded jet assembly.

Damn. You know, it had a wire that looks like it goes to the solenoid that was broken. I fixed the wire. I bet it actuated the solenoid and broke it. Maybe it the wire was disconnected for a reason...

OK. Here's what happened. There is a hollow bolt with little fuel feed holes drilled in it that meters gas AND holds the thing together.

Of course this brilliant design creates a weakness in the part so as it sits in gasoline it slowly corrodes. Solenoid actuates, part snaps.

Somebody should get fired for designing that.

I had that same thought later.. :yesnod:

But was waiting to hear what RED had to say.

He makes comments on experience, I can only provide shop manuals and illustrations as I have never worked on this kinda stuff..

Looks like Pete found the problem though now..
