Man Feared Dead on Eastern Pennsylvania Highway Was Napping

WIND GAP, Pa. — Sep 24, 2015, 8:15 AM ET

State police say a man feared dead along an eastern Pennsylvania highway was just napping.

Lehighvalleyonline.com reports several motorists called Northampton County 911 dispatchers when they saw the man's body Monday morning along Route 33 in Wind Gap. That's about 75 miles north of Philadelphia.

But troopers who responded say they found the man was homeless and merely sleeping. They woke him up and he left the area without incident.

Police say the man was lying against a guard rail near a highway exit. Motorists have to slow down to use the ramp, which is why police believe so many motorists saw the man and called 911.

Ha. I had a similar instance. Work van broke down on the side of the road, as I'm looking under the hood (to check for anything obvious) I look back and see a semi on the shoulder heading right for my truck. I ran away, and luckily the semi corrected and no damage done. I said 'F this', grabbed a blanket and moved WAY off the shoulder and just relaxed while waiting. As I'm laying there I fell asleep, woke up to the sound of a 2 way radio. Expecting to see the tow truck I opened my eyes to a State Patrol officer. He saw me laying there motionless and thought I was injured. :leaving:

Explained my situation and he smiled and went on his way. Tow truck arrived shortly thereafter.

That's only 15 minutes North of us. It is common to have a lot of strangers passing through as that is an entrance to the Appalachian Trail.

I've picked up a few folks hitchhiking there to get into town. :cert:
