INDIANAPOLIS - Indiana State Police seized 1,300 pounds of pot Friday during a traffic stop on Interstate 70 near Indianapolis.

It happened around 11 a.m. on Feb. 18 at the 76 mile-marker near Holt Road on I-70. That's where Indiana State Police Trooper Dennis Wade stopped a white 2006 International flatbed, traveling east.

While conducting the traffic stop Wade became suspicious when the driver, 42-year-old Michael T. Zmolik from Ennis TX, gave contradicting and suspicious information about his departure point and his final destination. Wade completed the traffic stop by issuing Zmolik a written warning for failure to maintain his lane.

After completing the traffic stop, Wade obtained consent to search Zmolik's vehicle. During the search, he found 29 bales of processed marijuana. The bales were being transported in two large metal containers (14 bales in one container and 15 bales in the other container) on the bed of the truck.

The total weight of the marijuana bales was approximately 1,300 pounds and has an estimated street value of approximately $134,000.

Zmolik was arrested and taken to the Marion County Arrestee Processing Center. He is charged with trafficking in marijuana and possession of marijuana over 10 pounds.

Wow. The good people of Indiana can sleep more soundly tonight knowing that this criminal menace is off the street. Maybe next week Trooper Wade can stop a truckload of ice cream. :sadangel:
