Jaguar cars are about to get a lot cheaper. The august British brand, owned by Tata Motors, of India, is rolling out two all-new vehicles at almost the same time, expanding its product line by 66 percent in a blitz of R&D just about unheard of in the auto industry.
Yesterday, Jaguar revealed that its XE sedan will have window stickers starting at $34,900, just a bit more than the starting line for BMW’s 3-series and a touch less than that of the Mercedes C-Class2.

The company is also unveiling a robust new warranty plan. Dubbed EliteCare, the program will come standard on all new Jaguars and cover the vehicles for five years or 60,000 miles, roughly a year longer and about 10,000 miles further than most competing programs.
The hope is that the XE will appeal to those that just want to stand out a little bit in the sea of luxury sameness. Jaguar is also unveiling a SUV, the F-Pace.

If it sells cars it's good for them.

As long as they put forth a better effort than that pseudo-Focus thing they tried a few years ago.

You mean the X-Type?

That it does, but I can't imagine Jaguar copying Ford at all because it was so miserable under Ford's ownership.

The wife's lease on the BMW will be up in a couple of years and unless we keep the lease we will be looking at another small awd suv.She does like British cars she had an XJ6 and when we met she had a Range Rover.
Watching some of the video's it looks to be based on rwd and not fwd which I will never buy.

Smaller and cheaper ? Ask Troybuilt or any of the others that went cheap to put product out there what happens to their legacy.
Dumb,dumb,dumb. I'm waiting on my 50K Ferrari.

That's what I'm thinking. Does Jaguar really want to lose its loyal following of rich folks and rock stars? This new car reminds me too much of the X-Type tiny Jaguar that was a bust.
The odd thing is that Land Rover sales are booming, almost 400,000 cars a year, and it's reliability is crap.

Status. If LR made a 20K entry level model, their whole line would fall apart. You can say an expensive car is "temperamental" so trips to the dealer are common. Cheap cars and low reliability would bury LR

I bet that would be pretty awesome with the small block 350 Chevy conversion.

Don't know if it needs up. You can equip them with up to 488 HP and maybe even 500+ HP.

It looks like a Volvo. At least the electronics (probably) aren't from Lucas.

Smart move. Unlike that x-type thingie, this will be a real car and competitive with the BMW 3 series and Mercedes C-class. Tata's sucess with Land Rover has been phenominal and I see no reason why Jaguar will be any different.

I haven't been in one, but the new F-Type is great looking.
