Hence why the stickers are on the glass. I needed place to store many of the stickers that I plan on putting back on the new wrap.

Goes under the knife tomorrow. I posted this simply to show how well the paint has been protected for the past 2.5 years. The paint looks BRAND NEW. :yesnod:

The old wrap came off very easily, with the exception of the extra sticky glue they use in the complicated spots (i.e. mirrors, indented body parts and wheel wells). I had to use 3M adhesive remover to remove that. Also removed the clear bra that was underneath the wrap. Front end, and the rest of the car for that fact, is flawless.

I'm ordering all new fender liners as well. Current ones are all sandblasted from all of the racing. Car looks pretty damn good for over 70 race weekends on it.

Florida schools do not impress me. She has her heart set on M.I.T. As a child who has received only 2 B's since she's been in school (7th grade), she has a reasonable shot of accomplishing that goal. She definitely has the extra curriculars going for her. Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do, over 100 days serving food to the homeless, will be running her first 1/2 marathon this year, tutors her fellow students, year book committee, .....

Regardless of the school, it will likely be in the North East. The money is there for her to go wherever, and a few left over to prenup her future beau.

Painter's tape is so thin. Race slicks sling rocks the size of Utah at your paint. Most people don't run slicks, so it may not be an issue for them.

Yes, I run hard. I don't wish to fight for 2nd place in any aspect of my life.

Creativity and the willingness to approach someone with an idea. Estero Bay will be supplying tires this season, in exchange, anyone who purchases a new Camaro or Corvette gets a 2 day event where I race, including school. They can then try a few laps in my car as well.

I'm meeting with a guy, whom I race with, who owns 6 restaurants. The plan is for him to supply tires as well. In return, he will co-drive with me. Because his business will sponsor the car, he gets a 100% write-off. And, he ends up in the fastest car at the track.

I use the Carbotechs at all 4 corners with stock rotors. Rotors easily last me the entire season. Yes, I start to get the cracks in the holes. In fact, I felt that I pushed the rotors one too many events recently, but I got away with it. Started January off with new front pads and new rotors. This setup works EXTREMELY well.

I had to chuckle the other weekend when I raced my stock '06 on street tires. That thing couldn't stop to save it's life. LOL The Z sometimes actually hops upon heavy braking because the pads and tires are so good.

If that's what being a baller is all about, then I guess I'll never be one.

Hey thanks. :)

I still don't know yet. I just purchased my car last year. I got up to 7th in a race with about 30 people before spinning after touching a curb that I now know not to touch. I ended up finishing ~23 after spinning again later in the day. (The race was broken into 2 sessions. It was strange). That was on tires that I didn't like. My car has too much camber and only the outer half was actually making contact with the road. That race was at Lime Rock.

I ran the same tires again at WGI few weeks later and did pretty poorly. I had only been to Watkins Glen twice before so I was getting to know the track as well as the car. I finished near the back.

The next race had low attendance numbers. The runoffs were the previous weekend so it wasn't a points race. I bought different tires for this weekend at WGI and it was night/day difference. I didn't qualify due to engine trouble. I started in the back (21st). I ended up winning class and 4th overall. After dumping all the oil onto the exhaust and running the fuel tank dry, I was underweight and classified with a last in class finish. I wasn't mad. I was just trying to have fun and figured I'd finish in the back again. I proved to myself that I'm fast enough to win. There'll be more and I won't be underweight again.

I think it's more the car than me though. The car has won regional championships and set lap records with previous drivers. This is also my first year with my racing license so I guess only time will tell.

Was that detailed enough yet vague enough to not answer your question?

:leaving:

Car is registered as a recreational vehicle. (<7500 miles annually). Autocross is not typically excluded, as it's driver development, with no wheel-to-wheel driving. Car is insured because of the lien. Once that is satisfied, I will drastically restructure my coverage, as the car is never on the road with the exception of to and from events.

As far as what cars? Your corvette would probably be classed in GT-1 or Touring-1 (T-1). C4's are sometimes classed in American Sedan (AS).

My car is an improved touring car. I'm running in IT-S. We usually run with IT-B. IT-B is a lot of the slower cars, such as VW golfs, dodge neons, etc. Some of the IT-B cars run near the front with ITS cars. IT-A and IT-7 are the first gen rx-7s (and others) and they run together. IT-7 is a class that came about from the IT-A class. Then there's the IT-E class. I'm not sure how this class came about. It's a very fast class and will usually run with GT-1, GT-2, T-1, T-2.
To summarize the IT category, there is ITA, ITB, ITC, ITS, IT7, ITE.

There's also production classes (A-Prod, E-Prod) which are much more relaxed with rules. It's my opinion that they should be running alongside the IT-E class, but I don't know everything and I don't make the rules.

Insured? I wish. Mine isn't even registered. I have the title from the last time the car was titled in 1998. It was purchased for $400.

I bought it outright. There's no loan. A rule of thumb everyone goes by is if you can't afford to replace the car in cash, then you shouldn't be racing. Otherwise, you have to be prepared to give up your hobby in an instant.

That being said, I've seen some race cars sell for as little as $3k.

As you can see, we were running with IT7 and ITA (Miata) that weekend. There were something like 75 cars on track that session. It was absolute INSANITY.

Is liability covered by the car's policy or do you have to have separate coverage for autocross?

You'll be able to do that with your car.

To race in those SCCA classes, you'll need an approved rollcage plus thousands of dollars in upgrades. It would be must cheaper to purchase a race car that somebody else built ( I highly suggest a Phoenix built car )

I have read that some insurance companies will drop you just for asking if your raced car is covered. I have followed the don't ask, don't tell policy. But right now I owe less than $2000 on my car so it doesn't really matter. It's worth more than that even wadded up.

The thing that would concern me way more than collision insurance is whether you are covered for liability. The loss of a car, even a brand new ZR-1 is finite, where if you kill or maim someone it can run into the six or seven figures real quick...

Everyone signs off on liability every time you attend an event. You'd have to actually read what you are signing to know how that would play out. I've never read it, but I think the jist is you are not liable for damage caused in an accident. I ram into some guy in his Veyron on accident and break his neck, I think he's out of luck on his car and his medical bills. Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong.

When you say everyone, does that mean every person that is at the event and not just participants? What about the track's property? One thing to keep in mind, it is impossible to sign away all liability. Just because somebody signs a waiver doesn't mean they can't file a lawsuit against you. It could be dismissed because of the waiver, but you would still have to hire an attorney to represent you to get it thrown out and no decent attorney will likely even look at representing you without a $5,000-10,000 retainer to start.

I am not asking these questions to whiz in anybody's Wheaties, I would like to eventually compete in some events and would like to know the best way to cover your ass against possible problems.

Yes, everyone signes the waiver. As for track property, I've wondered that myself. A guy I knew and chatted with who use to track a Supra posted a youtube video of himself taking out a chain link fence at Firebird raceway. I posted a question asking if they made him pay for the damage to the fence. I got no response. Maybe the tracks cover these that type of damage with their own insurance? I really don't know.

Of course it would make sense to be responsible for blantant disregard of the rules, intentional acts of distruction and such, but seeing as we are talking about our own liability for damage, I'm assuming we are talking about accidents. Things that might happen outside of our intensional control.

It makes sense. Luckily, unless you find a way to destroy the asphalt itself, requiring the track to be repaved, there shouldn't be anything you can damage that would be extremely expensive.
