Well pump quit working today... lost its prime.
It turns out toys and lots of grass down in the well will clog up a footer valve. :yesnod:
What a pain in the ass to go down in there to work on it.. :Jeff '79:
We have at least 4 possible suspects, (not counting neighbors) but I would bet on Steve as he has prior offenses..

Dang, we must have hit the pipe with the ladder getting it out...
Pipe is broke now.. :(
Dang. You have to dig up the well to replace the pipe?

No, the pipe from the pump itself that goes down into the well to the water.
There is a joint about half way down that must have got knocked loose from putting the ladder in, or bringing it out the other day when we went down in there to clear the footer valve.
I will get some PVC glue or epoxy today or tomorrow and get it fixed.
Tell then we are back to using the bucket.

Sounds like project creep to me. :(
We just replaced ours as well, but it's not an open well, just a pipe they stick down into the water fir. Cool docking fitting so you can pull up the whole shebang to change out the foot valve. Our problem was sulfur in the water caused corrosion. Solid brass now, no crappy galvanized.
Good luck with that Tim. :yesnod:

The well is hand dug and measures 3X3 foot on the outside so smaller inside.
We lined the walls with 3 inch hollow block, and then gave them a coat of cement to smooth the walls and protect the cheap block from erosion.
View from outside with the wood top cover pieces off.

Looking down inside you can see where the PVC pipe came loose.
I think it may have been hit with the ladder the other day and knocked it loose, but the well pump was working that night and didn't break till the next morning.

My home made coconut lumber ladder has seen better days, some of the step boards are missing and one broke on me on the way back up, so busted my shin on the way down..
I'm getting too old for this stuffs..

We couldn't find any PCV pipe glue, so I just bought some marine epoxy from a local Sari Sari store that they use for repairing small boat hulls here.
Took awhile to set up, and wont fire up the well until in the morning so it has plenty of time to set up.
But had some left over epoxy, and so not to waste.. I fixed a few of my boy Chico's toys. :seasix:

How bad is the smell?
I had a well that was sulfur water years ago when I lived at the lake.
Couldn't drink it and even taking showers was enough to make you want to breath through your mouth so you didn't have to smell it.. :(
A trick I was told by an old farmer that helped it out a lot was, inside the water heater at the top is a large nut looking deal that you can remove with a large pair of channel locks.
On the other end of it is a long aluminum rod, you cut it off and for some reason the smell goes away.. beat me why this works but it does.. :yesnod:
I mentioned this in another thread years ago when someone else was talking about a bad sulfur well.
Bucky Thread Killer said.. "you mean that long rod that stops your hot water heater from rusting itself out?"
Yup... that's the one.. :yesnod: :datawiz:
