This is what happens after a whole generation is not taught American History, or Civics in our schools, while pop-culture is one-click away 24x7? ...
- and some of these kids now vote!

You have made an effort to ensure she "gets it" unlike many disengaged parents today. She knows the value of a hard days work as evidenced in many of your photographs, and she understands that her return is made on her investment. Plus I'm sure that you make sure that she knows what is going on in the world. Hell, my 11 year old son knows more about history and the world around him than most of the 20 somethings in my workplace. It is our job as parents to make sure they go into this world prepared. Unfortunately, it would seem that many parents don't give a rats ass what their kids know and or understand.:sadangel:

No doubt the dipshits in this video don't have a clue. But my dog hobby exposes me to many many young people and I don't see this kind of stupidity in the kids I interact with. Not by a long shot. Unless you're involved with these kids on a regular basis like I am, I'd venture to say I'm around more kids than any of you.
No. They don't wrench on cars, but they volunteer, help one another, get good grades in school, respect adults and respect each other. Are there issues? Hell yes, they're kids. But everyone in the Juniors program steps up when one of them starts acting like a douche and straightens them out.
I'm not ready to abandon a kid because he doesn't fit into what I think he should know.

Hell Thomas I even agree with you too. They are not all the same by a long shot. But, by the time they are in their 20's, they should have some type of grip on things. In high school, I expect a lot of them to not be informed, but at the same time, it makes me wonder what in the hell the schools are teaching them. Our neighbor's kid is now in his second year of college (we call him one of our kids since we've known him since he was a baby, and he is around a lot), but let me tell you, he is sharp as a tack. He is on top of his school work, understands politics, history, and the world around him. He has a good work ethic and holds down a job along with his studies and I have a great deal of respect for him and his parents.

If I had to choose one thing that's harming young people today more than anything else I'd pick this notion that everyone gets a trophy. Everyone wins. OK, so kids are a little lacking in the history department. Yeah, it'd be great if they knew more. But giving a kid a trophy just because he participated is gay and far more damaging than little Johnny not knowing who Spiro Agnew was.

Seems odd to me that kids are so politically ignorant, but in reality, I guess compared to me, getting older in the one horse town that is Wash DC region, there is/was nothing else talked about at dinner table, or on the news, or in my daze, news PAPERS....much less US News & World Report, Time, etc.....
I knew the answer to all those questions....but what is most shocking to me is the MAJORS those kids are taking.....and the name of the screwal is Tejas TECH?? not one science/engineering major....huh???
