Stopped in to see my former neighbor and say Hi. I had to wait about 20 minutes while he finished raking hay with the John Deere Model B. Sam will be 94 in a couple months and is still doing pretty good.

Here's a picture of him from a couple years ago

Sam is responsible for my appreciation of vintage iron. Here's a few pics of some of his "goodies"

Back in the day when you wanted to paint something, you went to the general store and picked up a gallon of lead base paint. You added your own pigment if you wanted something other than white.

He started collecting most of those engines and other items when they were "outdated" and all you had to do was outbid the scrap dealer at the auction.

It's the folks like him that saved a lot of rare examples of early farming engines and machines.

When he's done raking, send him my way to show me how :Jeff '79:

You really want a 93 year old man driving down to your place from PA? :D

I wish I would have brought my camera with me. He had a clover cutter that was pretty cool. Hand operated to cut clover fine to feed to chickens. The clover makes the yolks darker :seasix:
