Greenpeace activists hanging from the St. John's Bridge, preventing a Shell icebreaker from leaving Portland. St. John's Bridge is a highly traveled artery, and they're blocking a major route to the Port of Portland. 102 out right now, and traffic is beyond chaotic as the bridge is closed, and water traffic is shut down from Swan Island to Kelly Point.

:iagree:This

No different from when a bunch of tree huggers at Berkley were living in trees the university wanted to cut down. One guy with a chainsaw would solve the problem.

News chopper returned after refueling (bwahaha!), now kayaks trying to block the ship. Doesn't look very safe.

Even if they had aluminum canoes, guess what powers the smelters that process the aluminum? Low natural gas prices are a major reason why at least some manufacturing is on shoring here again.

I'll bet there's a couple of firefighting boats close by. Be a good time to exercise the water cannons.

"Man, I really hate all those oil dudes", he said while eating a granola bar in a plastic wrapper while wearing clothes shipped from China and Birkenstocks. Bonus, he drives a Prius.

If people in our governments still had any balls, not only would they hit those weirdos with that per hour fine they would be massive arrests on RICO charges. This most certainly qualifies!:yesnod:

That was my first thought.

Personally I thought it would be more sporting to shoot the ropes as they wouldn't know which one was being shot at and the surprise looks they got on their dumb ass faces when they dropped like a rock sure would be priceless. :seasix: Got no use for those commies....

Statement from [Portlnd] Mayor Charlie Hales:

“This was a hard day for me – and for a lot of people in Portland. I oppose drilling in the Arctic. But it was a great day for Portland in these ways:

First, we made sure everyone was safe. Everyone was committed to safety, including the protesters, our amazing first responders, the Coast Guard, and the activists. That was our first priority.

Our second priority was free speech. It was imperative that the protesters be heard. They were, on a national and even international scale. That’s something we all believe in, here in Portland.

And third, we enforced the law.

Now it’s time to move from protest to action: to changing the laws. After all, that’s the point of the protest.

I want to thank everyone involved in this situation.

Good grief... :spdchk:

Quick explanation.

Portland Metro Area has about 2.2 million people.

550,000 of them live across the river in (low-tax) Washington. They're the peeps that nuked the I-5 bridge proposal because they didn't want to pay for light rail, bike paths, and an "architectural statement."

Only about 350,000 people actually live in "Portland." They're predominantly younger, overwhelmingly childless, and majority single.

That leaves the other 1.4 million shaking their heads in disbelief at the antics.

Maybe those protesters will be celebrating the layoffs resulting from cratering oil prices.

Royal Dutch Shell plc (ADR) (RDS.A) Profits Decline, Resulting 6,500 Layoffs (http://www.bidnessetc.com/48963-royal-dutch-shell-plc-rdsa-profits-decline-resulting-6500-layoffs/)

People like the protesters gripe about minimum wage jobs. Well, guess what.....even the lowest paid guys that go drill in the Arctic make good money. But hey, let's try and put all those people on the unemployment line.

Idiots.

Why do they need an ice breaker? I thought global warming took out the ice caps years ago.

Two course of action:

1.) Fine the protesters themselves. Put a lean on whatever property they have and future earnings....

2.) ...and if that doesn't get rid of them; send in mrvette. Drastic I know, but let Gene stomp their asses for a while and they'll cut that shit out.

Another useless asswipe mayor just like Seattle's.......

They will poison the competitiveness of their ports. Shippers aren't stupid.
If they think the ports are so unstable with their politics that they might
be the next ones targeted by these idiots, these ports will be blacklisted.
Politics over business, business loses and so does the city...
