The C-5 can hold 36 aircraft pallets. The dimension of an aircraft pallet is 88 x 108. And they jam in the rails...sometimes often. What a PITA. Also, tail swaps. That's what happens when an aircraft is loaded, ready to go, and then it breaks. The tail swap is moving the cargo from a broke ass C-5 to one that may also break. Suckage.
Also, there was testing for dropping a nuke from a C-5.

They don't sound like that anymore. We have been installing new engines on them for several years now and most have the work completed. The new engines are quite and produce more thrust while burning less fuel. The designation C5M is given to the a/c that have completed the mod. There is info online if anyone is interested.

Awww, you mean I won't get to hear Fred whine anymore? He seems to be whining about something that's broke often. :D

Use to see them at the airshows at DAFRB.
A pilot was asked about flying such a humongous airplane. He said, if you concentrate on getting the front part there. The rest will follow. :)

Pax have always complained about their seating. One or two have been told the back of the a/c will get to the destination about the same time as the front. :D

Traveling with Fred, waaaay up there above the cargo deck.
Loaded takeoff from Dover seemed like it used every last INCH of runway. :ohnoes:

In size how does that compare to the 747? :island14:
jmacs (Captian Jon that bought Dixies flight to be Santa) who use to post here some before he died who was a pilot for Kalita Airlines, once told me that as a pilot he personally inspected every strap holding down cargo pallets himself... as if one went.. they all went.
And he knew most of the crew that went down in that Afghanistan flight that dropped on take off a few years back
Great guy and wish he was still around..
I was asking him about flying a 747 and how hard it would be.. he laughed and told me anyone can do it.. as it's all done by computers these days and just push the buttons and it lands for you.
He himself was old school and preferred to land with the stick himself though..

The 747 can hold 42 pallets with 33 up and 9 down. The 9 goes in the normal baggage area.

the C5 can carry two M1A1 tanks at the same time neither a 747 or even a C17 can do that.
