View Full Version : 1997-2011
In 1997 I was a Drill Instructor and I got hurt while executing the obstacle course. My hip was damaged and the budget Navy Doctors gave me motrin. It got worse and they kept taking X-Rays, years and years passed by and I kept sucking it up.
Lately, I started to visit the doctor again and finally, last August they did a MRI and "finally discovered" it was cartilage damage and I was diagnosed with arthritis. I also told the doctor that I limp everytime I take a right step, he stated that I have developed tendinitis and gave me more pills. I took the pills and I got no idea WTF they are. This problem is just one chain reaction to many problems I got with my right leg (from lower back to the foot).
Today, I drove by an acupuncturist and his sign says "sport injury" and gave it a shot. I met with Mr. Lee, the man is a Korean dude with 10,000 diplomas, certificates, CA legal stuff I mean the man most be some kind of super needle man. I explained to Mr. Lee what happened to me in 1997 and within 15 seconds he describes all my problems without me telling him anything. I agree for him to perform acupuncture and he started to stick me with the needles on my elbows, back, lower back hip, hamstring, knee, calf and achilles tendon. Initially everything started smooth, few minutes went by and I could feel the tendons on my hip cramping real bad and I almost called him but, it started to go away. Few minutes passed by and I started to feel some relief to this pain that I've learned to live with and felt it going away. Mr. Lee came back and turned on a heat lamp on the needles and after 15 minutes he removed the needles and told me to stand-up.
For the first time in years I felt better and I was not limping. He told me to go back next week, I'll be there!!

That's great! I tried it (acupuncture) once and it was unsuccessful. I hope you can be pain free.

I agree. It didn't help me either, but I know a guy that swears by it.

Glad to hear it's working. Chronic pain is no fun, my wife suffers from back pain and has scheduled an appointment with an acupuncturist in a couple of weeks. I didn't even know, she just told me when I mentioned how it worked for you.
The one thing you mentioned about the pills is actually scary because you're in pain so you take the pills but they're not solving anything and the next thing you know you're hooked and who needs that bs.

So....basically, you're a human pincushion?
Seriously though, I've considered it for my lower back pain. I've heard similar success stories to yours. My back pain is from a car accident (rollover) when I was a teen. I won't take pills long term for the reasons nypearson enumerated, and have just learned to live with pain.
Glad it's working for you.

That has got to suck though. I used to work for a guy who had a bad back and when it went he couldn't even move, would just lay on the floor for hours if necessary, felt bad for him

Thats why I stopped taking them. I do if the pain goes beyond 10 and its time to go to sleep.
Friz, I know the feeling man. Live with the pain and you get used to it and that is no good for our health.

I don't have any chronic injuries yet, but I do got a couple of semi-worn out joints. My solution was to change my trade and to lose weight. If I don't over-do certain physical tasks, I do ok.

Last May, I had really bad lower back spasms to were I could barely walk. Went to see a Chiropractor to have my body adjusted, and they also had a oriental gal that does acupuncture. Same thing with the needles - had some on my lower back while I stood up with a lamp heating the needles. Just like Pete, I felt initial pain, but within just a few minutes, the pain disappeared completely. I walked out of there with no pain at all. The only problem was I had to come back next week, because the treatment was only good for 3 days. After the second treatment, I no longer needed to see her, but I do go back to the Chiropractor once a month for a body tweak.
For those that never had acupuncture, I've had it twice and it does work in relieving pain.

I threw a disc in my back by falling 100 ft out of a Blackhawk onto my back.
For years I was told it was simply a pinch in my muscles that go to the vertebre and I had to live with it.
Finally it got to where I couldn't even walk so I went to a Chiropractor. Ever since as long as I go on occassion I'm fine.
But I never tried the acupuncture. I always wondered how well it worked. It must because it's been around a long time.

The problem with most back pain is it's an injury, from soft tissue to broken vertabra, and it will heal 100% like a broken leg with 10 bolts running through it....if we could stay off of them. The problem is, we can't and that's why 'Back Pain' is the #1 ailment in our country.
My mother had 2 torn discs and was ready for surgery some 20+ years ago. A major heart attack, experimental heart surgery and complications kept her chest open and in a hospital bed for almost 2 years. After finally recovering, her back was 100% like new for the remaining 5 years she lived (until the ripe age of 49). Bed rest, like a leg in a cast, healed her back.
Acupuncture works like electrode therapy, it basically confuses the nerves so they cannot transmit pain to the brain. It's temporary and never long term healing.
Chiropractor work is absolutely the worst thing you can do for your back. It will give temporary relief, but damages the vertabra as they get forced into place violently- this, in turn, will guarantee arthritis as time progresses if used as a habit. If you can find a 'Precision Chiropractor' that uses nothing but a small tool and a couple minor taps by your neck, you'll get your alignment corrected over time. The muscles have to learn to re-support your spine the correct way, so it can take up to 5 years of treatment with Precision work.
Typical back pain can also be healed with the right Physical Therapy (excersises for the muscles surrounding the spine), get taught how to sit while watching TV, driving and walking. Check your bed for correct support. Weight (over weight) plays a big part in back pressure and mis-aligned spines, especially in a badly supportive bed where you spend 1/3 of your life

Physical therapy for me was a joke. Didn't help a bit.
My wife was having lower back pain caused by a couple of discs getting swelled and pinching the nerves. She got a couple of steroid shots and it helped a lot. Then she fell off the back steps and broke her arm just below the shoulder, all of a sudden she didn't feel the back anymore. The needles they used for her acupuncture were a little thicker.

Tip: It was awesome when I told her that she had bad breath, she was quiet for two days until she went to the dentist. "he said I'm fine"

Let me tell you guys things I used to do to her for me to get my space.
I used to work on a watch so I would work two-three days and I get a day off. The very first time I failed, I told her and she called in sick and ruined my plans. I told her that the watch system didnt work and my boss put us back to work regular working hours, on my day off I would get up and drive around the block until she would go to work then, I would go back home and sleep few more hours, go to lunch and to the movies.
I had a second transmitter to her van so about twice a week I would activate the panic button every time she would open the door.
Randomly I would lower the water heater temp at night for her to take a nice cold shower in the morning. Boy, that woman had some words to share.
The one she could not deal with was if I would make a face while eating. She would ask if the food was alright and I would say; "honey, the food is, is, ok, I like it" but, she would get bent out of shape.
It was hate since two hours after we got married. That monster stoled from me, once threw my wallet away, tried to get me in trouble with my command, while I was in the ship she didnt pay the bills, and until the day I die unless somebody comes with a video I will strongly claim that she burnt my 92 Vert.
I rather be alone than having bad company.
