It's been awhile since I made one of these threads but wanted to share Friday nights edition of Rhum Wars with you.

It started off around 1 am or so when I noticed I was out of smokes.

Hate it when that happens... but luckily I know a few stores that I can wake up at about any hour of the night and went out to get some.

I had no plans to drink that night but I got to thinking I felt kinda guilty for waking them up at that late hour just for some smokes, so also bought a few bottles of Rhum and some Nestea to make up for it.

OK, we haves Rhum.. :D so lets go wake my buddy Pinoy.. :island14:

He woke right up but explained to me that he had been bit by a stray dog and just had some shots that day, so probably not a good idea to drink as it might dilute his medication and antibiotics.

I heard loud music a few miles away and asked him if he wanted to go over to the Jungle Disco even if he didn't drink.. but he informed me that it was just a wedding party...

So off to wake Badok, he's usually ready to Rhum'ble at any hour.. :datawiz:

He woke right up, and started off drinking back at my place and by the time we finished a bucket of Rhum, I talked him into going to "the disco".. :D

I already knew it was someones wedding party, but wouldn't be the first time we crashed one around here.. :datawiz:

The people are usually pretty friendly and always surprised and happy to see a drunk foreigner show up..

It took us awhile to find the place, but just kept following the noise of the music through fields and goat trails till we found it.. :seasix:

And as I suspected, even though I didn't know anyone there.. we were invited right in.

Turns out it was a Birthday party for the guy in the green shirt below with Badok.

Morning now and time to go home, but first they wanted to make me a cup of coffee.

There were only 4 houses out here so I was surprised how many kids started coming out when they woke that morning.

Yeah they are, and doubt they have ever even been off of the island their whole life as most haven't.

I didn't say anything to them so it can be a surprise, but was thinking if we get the Santa deal going again this year we should stop by here, I'll get a count later but guessing only about 10 or 12 kids there so wont take much to bring some smiles to them.. :seasix:

Good times and good pics, Tim. :seasix::cert:

Oh yea.....Pandasal! That stuff is so good when it's still warm. I like to have it by itself, with coffee, or with a full on breakfast. So good!

Pandasal is unique to the P-I. Even the little bread crumbs on top make it even more tasty. Sarap! (Delicious)

I found some info:

Pandesal Recipe (http://www.filipinofoodstore.com/recipes/pandesal.html)

Pandesal as the name implies means salted bread (pan de sal) a Mexican/ Spanish origin. Although the filipino bread rolls are more sweet than their Mexican counterparts. Baking bread is always great as nothing beats freshly baked bread in the house. But let me remind you, that baking is not an easy task. Anyway, the more you practice the better your pandesal gets: more fluffy and not dense at all. Well if all goes wrong, do not forget that we always have a nearby bakery to count on :-)

I wonder if there is some correlation between poverty and having a bunch of kids?

They mix it up and never know what bread they will be making till the day they make it.

They also make a really nice sweet coconut flavored bread.

Not sure what they call it.

Probably my favorite.. :seasix:

Not sure.. but since this is a majority Catholic country it might help explain it.. :island14:

I was hoping you could make it this year.. :seasix:

I know if you wait till the last minute to decide, the flights get pretty pricy during the Christmas season. :yesnod:

Try to make it if you can Sandy..

I will.

Industry has just been crazy busy with the federal mandates and changes produced by the Affordable Care Act. Both intended and unintended. :banghead:

Oh I know you would James.. :yesnod:

A guy that use to have a bar over in town told Mark (that guy that writes books I have posted about in the past)

"Don't drink Rhum with Tim".. and its stuff like this is why he told him that.

Mark is a Rhum veteran also that lives in Thailand most of the time, and we have had some really good nights out here on the island, as he gets along well with the locals also, and does not care where he ends up like me.

There have been quite a few times I have woke up out in the middle of nowhere, at peoples huts I had just met and didn't even know.

It's fun making new friends with a few bottles of Rhum. :datawiz:

And Badok, Pinoy and the guys, can be a blast to party with.. we have many Tanduay war storys we shared together over the years.

Like the time Badok and I crashed the motorcycle 3 times one night, without the engine even running, just pushing it.. as we knew we were both too drunk to drive it... :Jeff '79:

You ought to head over here someday, and bring Johnny too, it sounds like he does not like to drink very much, so he can be our driver and keep us on the leash.... some. :D

Has up north frozen your brain. Wake up here....It is obviously a condom test station, and the little kids you see are complaints that didn't past the product improvement phase. They need some freakin' quality improvement!

Would you like more pics of Dads next time Robbie? :island14:

:D

The way the houses are all close on the same lot there is a good chance they are all related, I didn't ask.. and like I said this was the first time I met them.

Not sure who all belonged to who, But at least 6 of them (possibly more) in the pics had the same Mom and Dad I know, as I was talking to the Mom at the house in the second set of photos. (The Dad is standing in the background)

Large family's are common here.. Badok has 9 himself :yesnod:

And my wife comes from a family of 9 also...

Guess I'm a slacker, we only had 4 :)

There was a deal a few years back in the news where they were talking about giving away condoms, and the Catholic Church here went off and was dead set against it.
