Die in a fire.

Suddenly, a respite from our 20-30 degree weather. A sunny, warm, 60 degree day. I had forgotten you menaces to society even existed, but today, you reemerged from your winter slumber.

Thank you so much for looking back at me and sneering, dickheads. After all, how dare I drive slowly behind you on a narrow lane instead of running you over like you deserve, seeing as the only reason I was behind you was because you two numb-skulls decided to carelessly blow through the stop sign at a T junction where I had the right of way and you were supposed to stop. If I was an Asian woman you'd be dead right now.

Thank you as well for abandoning your single file stance, riding side by side, and taking up the whole lane once we turned onto a wider road where I should have been able to safely pass your traveling at 5mph asses. Classy move. Luckily for me the oncoming lane was empty, and I didn't have to remain behind you and fight the urge to gun it and mangle you.

I hope you both get run over by a beer truck.

p.s., this isn't the Tour de France, you look like complete jackasses in your Lance Armstrong get-ups.

Thank you as well to bicyclist #3 on my home street. Way to make it impossible for me to pass you, and after I finally was able to, thank you for giving me a dirty stare as I backed into my driveway and you turned off down another street. F*** you too prick.

Don't get me wrong, I'm certainly not standing up for Critical Mass, but when the driver of a car goes out of his way and jumps over a curb/road divider with the clear intention of causing harm to the bicyclists, the car driver is the doucherocket.

I mean seriously, you are sitting on your ass in a heated/ac controlled environment but you think because you are in a 4000 pound vehicle, 20 seconds of your life is worth more than all of a bicyclist's. You people are fukced in the head.

How would you like it if every time you went for a walk, someone stuck a gun in your face simply because you were on the road ?

I think the goal of the current mayor of this city is to make Portland more bicycle friendly than it is to cars, so we've certainly got our share of arrogant riders around here. Many riders blatantly ignore traffic laws - which often could have caused serious bodily harm to the rider, so I really have to wonder what they hope to gain or prove. Yet this martyr mindset seems to be growing among riders.

I blame the city planners for not providing appropriate and safe lanes to ride. I would much rather deal with road bikers than the 35,000 students here in Athens that drive mopeds everywhere. At least you can get around a bike pretty quickly. People who ride mopeds should be shot on sight.

Wish we had bike paths up here at the lake! It’s a large lake and tons of bikers are up here tying up the roads in good weather!

We have the bikes up here riding around like they own the road. Most of those bozos do not have a clue and the only rules they follow is their own.

Run through red lights , fly through stop signs, ride abreast and just generally act like assholes. We sometimes get a pack of 20 or more and they think their invincible. Car or truck against their muscles and light frame bikes and I can guarantee who/what gets hurt. It’s not the kids so much as the jerks with those bedpans tied on their heads.

I can't understand the mindset either. Many of the riders around here are educated people - but even an idiot knows a car/truck is always going to "win".

Even though this was an accident - rather than some elitist bike rider riding like an arrogant ass, here is an example of car vs bicycle. A kid riding at night crossed over into my lane and ran into my 72. That dent is an impression of his knee.

I agree with you...ish. Some people are getting a little to into this whole death thing. :willy: Reminds me of when people say they want to open their doors when motorcyclists lane split...legally.

But on the other hand we have a lot of jackasses around here too. Especially in the mountains. It bothers me when bikes don't move over when I am on my motorcycle. I know you know I am there and no I am not getting any closer to the double yellow so you can ride in the middle of the lane. If you don't want me that close to you then MOVE! :beat: When they do scoot over a little or go from two wide to one I will give them extra room.

I was stopped at a red light the other day and some bicyclist came up and decided they needed to be four wide and spilling out in front of me...they were in an already wide bike lane yet two of them really needed to move in front of me. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y47/AFIDrummerGirl/Smilies/whatever1.gif Luckily, I drive a tiny car and had enough room to move my car around them before the light turned green.

I am not disagreeing about the driver being a D/R, but the driver was so out of touch with reality that she was driving the wrong way on the number one lane. She crossed over the island to avoid the car that was driving properly in the number one lane, to avoid the accident.

She obviously just exited Fringe world two and did not have time to react to the new reality.

True.

The record for an hour on a normal fixed-gear bike in the velodrome is just under 50k, so 31 mph.

The shorter races are probably closer to a 35-40 mph top speed since they start from a standstill. :willy:

Commuting to work or for pleasure, it still costs the same to build and add the bike lanes, stop boxes, etc. Even though they're owned by the public, people who ride mass transit (buses and light rail) still have to pay a fee to ride whether that ride is for commuting or pleasure. Same with Amtrack and so on. I don't think a registration fee is unreasonable to ask.

As it is now, the bike lanes, paths, stop boxes, etc. are being paid for by the same source as other local roads which of course includes partial funding from fuel taxes. As it is, bikes are obviously not paying a single cent in fuel taxes. Anything that would contribute to the general road fund would help offset the costs of the bicycle only lanes, etc. I'm not sure what it's like in your city, but there is a ton of money being spent here on bicycle specific infrastructure.

It's definitely seen a rise over the years here. But really nothing more than 4' wide lanes on the side of certain roads.

In total yes, they do cost millions. However, that is not how DOT's consider the addition of bicycle facilities or in many cases other public conveniences.

The thing with bike lanes is that it is a draw for the city to have them. When my wife and I were looking to move out of Arizona, I was a pain in the ass and limited us to places that getting around on a bike was easy. This can be through bike lanes or running/multi-use paths. I'm not the only person like this- many cyclists and triathletes I know are the same way.

It's just like parks, sports stadiums, and other things that draw people to a specific city. The city decides what to spend its money on from its general tax drawer.

Think of it another way- those who commute on a bike are one less car on the road to slow you down to your destination. :)

One other thing- cyclists and tri-geeks have an income on the average of $150k or so. That's a big tax base for the cities and states.

The problem here is you're inadvertently claiming your time is more valuable than mine. I shouldn't have to be stuck behind you for any amount of time.

If you hate people so much, why don't you buy a cabin in Montana and just write letters to newspapers about how much everyone else sucks? You live in a world where there are other people, sometimes you have to give them space. If I was in a grocery store checkout and your mom was in front of me with 165 items, 87 coupons and a checkbook, would it bo okay for me to push her out of the way and break her hip because she is wasting my time?

I've never understood why so many people, like most of you d1ckheads in this thread, think that people deserve to die just b/c you are inconvenienced for 20 seconds.

Fcuk all of you.

:kick:

Oh simmer down.
That's just the anger and frustration talking.
No one thinks you should die.
Not really.
Maybe just a broken arm or two.
Perhaps a few busted ribs
A broke knee.
Yeah, a broke knee; 'cause then you'd be lame in one leg, and would be peddling in circles.
Which would be great for the track.
Unless they made you go the other way.
That'd suck.

Edit: Still be funny to watch though.

Um, yeah. Sorry bro. This is it in a nutshell. This is precisely why so many of us have come to despise the cycling community. This attitude.

There's a special place in hell for the arrogant, self-centered, God-complex cyclist, right between the assholes who take cart-fulls into the 12 items or less self-checkout lines and then pay with a check, and left-lane citizen police who block faster traffic on the freeway.

See what Mrs Colleen wrote? Share the road. Simple concept that with a little give and take from BOTH sides makes for an enjoyable time for everyone.

Your two little skinny tires do NOT equate to supremacy on the road. (remember "share the road" )

If you want me to obey the rules of the road and not drive over/into you, please follow the rules yourself. The white outline on the stop sign does not mean it's optional. Make a full stop. Do NOT ride two wide on narrow roads when you know there are motor vehicles behind you. Single file makes it safer for you and those "short tempered idiots" in the four wheeled vehicles will be past you before they really pissed off.

some own 1 car...some own a dozen

some only own a motorcycle...should they get the same free ride as bicyclists?

bottom line here...it's another example of one group of Americans having to pay for the entitlement of another group. that is, those who pay fuel and other taxes and registration fees...pays for the special treatment of bicyclists who share the road ways.

They're taking without contributing. If a cyclist owns one, two, three or ten cars then he's helping pay for those roads just like you and I are. Obviously not in fuel taxes but we can't split hairs over that. Otherwise I'm getting the raw end of the deal when I drive my motorhome vs. the guy in the hybrid.

Agreed.

My argument isn't so much with the wear & tear or even maintenance...it's with the construction and signage etc. It's mostly DOT approved and quite expensive.

Ever had experience in paving to DOT standards? Or purchase DOT approved signage? I have and I can tell you...it is not cheap.

I'm sure they're going faster than 30. I can go 30 on my 30 year old road bike. Those guys are a lot stronger than me and their bikes are a lot lighter than mine.

The record for an hour on a normal fixed-gear bike in the velodrome is just under 50k, so 31 mph.

The shorter races are probably closer to a 35-40 mph top speed since they start from a standstill. :willy:

I don't think we should have them use license plates, etc. Too much government regulation.

I just want them to show the maturity, class, and responsibility that CHILDREN do when they're out on their bikes.

I could understand if a kid every once in a while screwed up. But every time there's an asshole rider on the road, it's some douche-bag adult wearing spandex shorts, a yellow jersey, and a goofy racing helmet.

Without license plates they get the same anonymity that people believe they do on the internet. At least with plates there's some way to track down and prosecute the d-bag who cut you off and caused you to swerve into a pole, or the guy who threw something at your car.

If they're on public roads, they should have public tags. Either that, or get rid of license plates on all vehicles.

This is the only type of biking that matters, although sometimes you still need to get out on the road and ride. I agree bikers can squeeze over when possible, but today's drivers really need to learn that "right-of-way" is not just for cars - bikes, and pedestrains have right of way as well.

Perhaps an alternative to plates, registration, etc., would be to charge a toll for using some of these lanes.

As an example, it could be easily done to help cover the cost of this "inexpensive" bicycle only lane:
