looking into this almost 2k in price, weighs almost 400lbs and 2 story safe, plus it can be bolted to the ground
100 cubic yards of concrete is pretty heavy.

But the concrete is what deters them from stealing the whole cabinet.:yesnod:
I'd suggest a gun safe. They are plenty heavy, can be bolted to the concrete floor, and they can hold all kinds of stuff, plus they give you some protection in the case of a fire.

Maybe you should purchase one ounce ( troy ounce ) silver bars to keep too. If inflation goes wild in the event of a crash, at least silver would be something you could barter for. :yesnod:

Actually the way things are going (on many fronts) having a good supply of common ammo and magazines comes in handy. Other than the obvious uses of ammo/mags/extra guns for their shooting use if the shit really hits the fan (for whatever reason )they are valuable trading commodities.

I have a large Liberty gun safe with internal(hidden) hinges, bolted to concrete floor of basement. After getting it, I felt pretty safe until I did a walk-through in my shop. Cutting torch, chisels, metal cut off tools... you get the drift.
As those tools aren't used every day, the large ones are now stored out of the house and the smaller ones are in the safe.

I agree, for more than one reason, ammo and guns are likely a better investment than gold or silver if the STHF.
If the economy collapses who cares how much money in dollars, cash, gold, etc is on-hand, it all could be worthless (ask Greece in a few weeks).

The key pad is only the operator of the mother board that is deep inside the door. If the mother board is OK a replacement keypad will open the door.

Exactly this. :yesnod:
I've done a lot better in the ammo market than the stock market.
The worse sh*t gets, the more ammo/magazines/firearms are worth. I have never lost money on a firearm purchase and subsequent sale. Even if I was to sell it at low prices to get it liquidated in a hurry, the collection I have now is easily worth 200-300% what I have invested.
Well... it would have been prior to that terrible boating accident. :(

Got a gun safe last year. Even though guns and ammo take up the most space, plenty of room for important papers, some coins/bars and cash in case of emergency
Rule of thumb when buying a gun safe..when deciding on size of safe to buy...look at what size you need now and double that:seasix:

Dude, you're really missing the point here. Even if your gun(s) were lost in a tragic wife accident, you still need a gun safe. They are heavy enough that they wont get hauled off, especially if you bolt them to the floor. You'll discover you have other shit you want to put in it as soon as you have it at home.
If your goal really is just to hold some miscellaneous cash and nothing else, they do sell fireproof boxes that can be locked....you just have to hide it really well in the case of robbery. I had one when I was married. Of course, my then wife cleaned it out right before she filed for divorce.

I have a small safe in my office at home; but it's bolted on three sides inside a piece of furniture. If the thieves found it, it would take half an hour to chop or saw it out; the home alarm should prevent them from having that much time.

:iagree: I compare it to my wife's shoe collection, before she moved in she had no room for more shoes, she moved in and got a much bigger closet, I think it took less than 6 months for the new closet to be just as full.
Same with a home safe, if I had one, hypothetically it took less than a year to exceed the capacity. :leaving:

I am surprised no one has mentioned about mounting a safe in the basement exterior wall, and hiding the door behind a heavy couch or even a curtain....
here in Florida most houses are single story/concrete floor, find a closet in a carpeted bedroom, cut the floor, line the hole drop in a steel box and finish off with a flat steel door/lock put the carpet over it set the shoe rack over it....
or dirty laundry basket......:seasix:

If I had any I would have two. One would be a medium security rifle cabinet that held a few thousands rounds of ammo and a couple of lesser expensive rifles, holsters, and accessories. Bait, as it is.
The other would be old and heavy with a dial mechanism, about two feet tall, a foot and a half wide, and two feet deep. Fire rated, of course. It would take two people to lift it in and out of a vehicle. One would need hand truck to get it in the house. Bolt it to floor and wall in the corner of a closet. It could hold half a dozen pistols with loaded magazines, three full ammo boxes and a dozen or so boxes of assorted ammo along with an inside drawer that could hold jewelry, car titles, keys and a few k in cash.
The money will only matter for a little while but the extra ammo and weapons would be a great boon when TSHTF.
If I had one, of course.:BADRACR1:
As of last Christmas the gun cabinet idea was exchanged for an 18 gun Liberty. 400 lbs, and bolted through the floor. Big enough to hold four AR's, a 12 gauge, two .22 rifles, two 9mm and two .22 pistols, and 8k rounds of misc. ammo. If I had one.

You realize that what kills countries economies is inflation right? So you're better off to buy something of value like gold or diamonds and keep it in a safe, rather than what might become useless paper currency. :(
I've owned 3 safes, and the best one was a small in floor safe that was nor only cemented into the floor, but bolted to the lower slab as well. small and deep. About 10in square and 20in deep.
Very similar to this only square, not round......

I have a good sized gun safe that used to have some weapons and ammo in it (before the obligatory boating accident). It is bolted to the slab and is VERY heavy. It is fire rated for either 60 or 90 minutes, but just to add some extra time, I bought a fireproof file box that I keep all my important papers, cash, hard drive backups, etc in. I put that fireproof box inside the gun safe. So even if the fire burns long enough to breach the gun safe, I'm hoping the fire box adds some extra time for the papers and stuff.
