It's a Citroen.
Correct, and the car gets an "A" for breaking the mold. Not all that much of a stretch from a Jag E type from the 60's.

A great icon in Europe... they never caught on here...

Ugly car, but it had that cool (and buggy) hydraulic suspension.
You can say what you want about that car, but....it's instantly recognizable, unlike today's car offerings, which all pretty much look alike. For that, I blame the "jelly bean" Ford Taurus.

the wind tunnel is to blame

They made a crap ton of them in Europe true.

And throughout the ages, have solidly maintained their position as one of the fkn ugliest vehicles ever produced.

Sometimes yes,sometimes no.

Actually, I believe it was Brock Yates who said it back in the '70's. That because of the wind tunnel and The MPG quest...it wouldn't be long before cars would all look the same.

If that were any more beautiful, I'd need 2 minutes alone :funny:

I think at one time they were hooked up with Maserati. Homely comes to mind. Just because it comes from Europe, that does not make me think its something great. :ack:

The Citroen is French. They eat snails. They bathe once a week. They wage surrender. All connected.

Jay Leno likes French cars. I concur. I find the DS to be quirky not ugly.
" appeal of French autos can be found in the unique approach with which they are designed. Italian cars are about passion; English cars about quirkiness; German cars, engineering; and American cars, staid reliability. French cars tend to be about intellectualism and architecture. They are smartly engineered, look impeccable and have a hard-to-define character."

Say what we will, the Renault Alpine is pretty dope, though.

In the first half of the 20th century, Citroen was always ahead of their time. Meet the first mainstream, mass produced FWB full-sized sedan.

Check out how this thing was put together. Anyone recognize the unibody with the powertrain on a cradle out front? How about the aluminum transaxle, almost unheard of at the time.

The undercarriage was just as slick.

This car was introduced to the public in 1934, and was produced for 23 years. 759,000 units. Here's what was special about the car compared to it's contemporaries- it was quite a bit lighter, and had a much lower center of gravity. Meaning, in any situation where handling was important, it could literally run away and hide from any of it's contemporaries. These cars were prized by gangsters, the French Resistance, and even the German Army, who took them as far afield as Libya and Stalingrad.

From what I understand, from what I've read, the DS were decent cars, but there wasn't a service program at work in the USA, and mechanics with the skills, knowledge or patience to work on them were too few and far between, creating a reputation of being difficult to work on, when if you had the correct tools and training they were no less reliable than the American stuff.
Now Peugeot... that was a different story...
