Spelling Counts: Errors on Signs Cost County $4,000

NORRISTOWN, Pa. — Jun 12, 2015, 8:32 AM ET

Spelling counts — and sometimes it costs money.

A suburban Philadelphia county was victim to an embarrassing misspelling on signage posted around the local community: the word "commissioners" with only one "m'' on 26 signs.

Montgomery County officials say it will take about 10 days and $4,000 to correct the error with adhesive labels.

The 6-foot-tall signs bear the county's website and the names of the three county commissioners. They were posted in parks, along the county trail system and in front of the courthouse several months ago.

The signs replaced out of date and mismatched signs around the county.

A county employee noticed the error and reported it to officials.

I have to go out and do some paperwork tomorrow anyway, if I see any of the signs I'll post them :funny:

The whole thing is a waste of taxpayer's money. The current office holders want their names on the signs to build name recognition and hopefully, to help then get reelected. There is absolutely no legitimate need for these signs. It was a waste of taxpayer money even without the spelling error.

I took pics in 3 locations, all of them were spelled correctly and didn't look like corrections :shrug:

I'd bet a dollar they took our Montgomery County tax money and had a brand new sign made for in front of the courthouse. :yesnod:

I took pics outside a parking lot and a small park, they were identical. I bet they fixed them before the story even got out.

Still a waste of money :yesnod:

On Rte 63 leaving Sumneytown heading towards Harleysville, the signs they put up at the Unami Creek read " Village of Unami Creek" :crazy:

A week later the same light reflective tape covered "Village of" :lol:
