View Full Version : Car tuneup
I have a 2011 Camaro 2SS. When should I get a tuneup? I can't find anything in the owners's manual about it.

How many miles are on her, Gina? Those LS1's are some very robust platforms. NGK TR55's are good plugs. MSD or Taylor's are great wires. I would replace the fuel filter for sure($15) and the air filter as well. You want to check the tranny fluid and fuel filter and wouldn't be a bad idea to change the gear oil also.
Don't forget the PCV valve.
Most LSx motors recommend plugs and wires at 100K. So, unless it is very high mileage, you should be good. No more Lotus?

I would check fluid levels, but not change anything other than the oil. Replace fuel and air filter with WIX only. I've heard not to mess with the trans. filter or fluid unless it is giving problems. Seems people create problems by changing trans. filter and fluid...? Check battery. How old is it?
I still have the Lotus, but will probably be selling her sometime soon. I just never drive it.:sadangel:
The Camaro has 82,000 miles. I drive a lot. :D. It started "missing" yesterday so I took it in this morning. It was a fouled spark plug. I didn't know if warranty would cover it because I'd never had it checked or tuned up.......but it did, thank God. They are cleaning the injectors and other stuff now for $199.

If it was me, I'd check the muffler bearing and the blinker fluid. But I also bought Lloyds Mats for my mats. :D

Save your self 200 and go get a bottle of injector cleaner at pep boys. When you go to fill up gas next time, pour the injector cleaner in, fill up. It'll clean as you use the gas in that tank.

100,000 miles is normal for the regular service schedule.

I'm an "old schooler" and believe 100K is far, far too long to go on a set of plugs.
The spark delivered at 5,000 miles is way stronger than at 100,000 miles!
In a high performance engine, even today's LSX needs optimum spark under combustion for maximum efficiency.
It might be "Ok" if your engine never goes above 3,000 rpms... but if so, why do you have the car? :D

Too late! They got me.
But, I will say, it runs much better now.
I'll let you know on my Lotus.
