173-yard par 3, used a 6-iron, nice little draw, then the surreal vision of it landing and rolling into the hole. Couldn't believe my eyes. Guys grabbing me and yelling, something about having to buy drinks, the clubhouse guys were pretty jazzed too, got all my info and witness names, all in all a pretty cool deal. Now I only have to get 7 more to tie my dad.

Tried to get a picture of the guys, it was like herding cats.

No, didn't freak me out at all. Funny thing is, normally you have to buy all the guys drinks, but none of these guys drink alcohol much if at all. So they just wanted some sodas, which I happily purchased. Saved some money there I tell you.
I'm just jazzed that it happened right before my dad's big golf tournament which is next Friday/Saturday up in Columbia MO. My brother is my dad's partner this time, I'm partnered with another club member. It's a 2-man best ball tournament where you play 5 9-hole matches against the other teams in your flight. It's handicapped, a Thursday practice round is included, all food and drinks are free and copious, and mucho betting is involved. Last year I missed a 3-foot putt that would have netted us $1000, I'm still pissed about that. :banghead:
Oh, and plus I get to slightly rub it in my brother's face, he's a lot better than I am (he's pretty much scratch, I'm currently a 10.4), but he's got exactly zero. :D

Yeah, that would be nice. Kinda bummed that we got rained out today. It's not currently raining but we got about 3" last night, course was already pretty wet, I can only imagine what it's like now. Swamp golf isn't really very fun.

Congratulations! Never had an ace. Closest I ever got was the ball stopped about 6 inches behind the hole.
Agree on swamp golf.

It's probably for the best anyway, being that today is our 29th wedding anniversary. :leaving:
Also yesterday, three holes earlier (#5), a hole that in the past has given me fits, a bit of foreboding occurred. It's a par 4 that used to be a par 5. They just said "OK, now it's a par 4." but didn't change a thing. So it's pretty long, OB left, fairway bunker, trees right, big ass bunker right of the green, water right behind the green. You get the idea. I striped my drive down the middle of the fairway and was only 129 yards out. I really don't understand how it used to be a par 5, all you need is a 330 yard drive to get to 100 out. :D
Anyway, after all the other guys hit from their shitty drives, I damn near holed out my approach shot. It landed, rolled toward the pin, wobbled as it went by (hit the cup and didn't go in) and left me a 6" tap-in birdie. That's the only time I've birdied the hole putting on the green (I've putted off the green for birdie one time before so two birds total on that hole.)

Lucky strike.... :D
In Asia this would have cost you close to 10K. You'd have to buy each of your golf partners a nice gift( normally a set of clubs) the WHOLE club house a round of drinks. It cost 1-2 bucks a round for hole in one insurance. there.

This would have been a lot more expensive if it happened at my Dad's club. I've seen what happens there when someone gets an ace. I didn't even know the guy and got several drinks tossed my way.

BTW, in that last picture, the guy standing up on the tee box (Justin) has something that's really rare - a double eagle on a par 5. The odds of getting a hole in one on a par 3 is about one in 13,000. The odds of a double eagle on a par 5 is about one in a million. He's one of the best golfers I know. I was with him one day when he shot a 64.

Justin may want to consider the PGA. Or he could be a ringer. Whichever pays more. :D:seasix:

Brent, I'd like to take this opportunity to personally welcome you to the club. I've got three myself.
I got my first one in 2000. It was on the fourth hole of the Red Sands course, Golden Tee '99. I had to hook it a little bit because there was a wicked wind. I slammed the track ball and then stopped it suddenly with the palm of my hand. There is a considerable debate among us golfers whether stopping the ball does anything at all, but I'm one of the believers.
The second one was on a Golden Tee '98. Out of order, chronologically yes, I know, but that's the way it happened. It was on the first course. The one with the river. I remember that because there's bears and deer and shet to bounce your balls off of. I don't remember any of it cause I was drunk at the time. Nobody else noticed either as we were playing. But the next day I saw myself being congratulated on the instant replay that serves as an automated advertisement on the game when nobody's playing.
Same with the third. It was also on the Golden Tee '98. I don't recall which course because I was drunk when I saw the congratulations screen playing the next time I was in that bar and the next time after that they had swapped the machine out.
Again. Congratulations NOOB ... and what took you so long? :funny:

 I've played Golden Tee maybe three times in my life, and I'm terrible at it. At the local BWW they had one that was always in play, one of the bartenders there would play it after his shift and had the top score all the time, on national games even. If he wasn't in the top 20 national he was pissed.

Here's a Karl story. He's the "president" of our Wednesday night league. Reluctantly so. It's a thankless job. About 7 years ago, when I was a noob at golf but had no shame or fear, I just showed up one night and asked if I could play in the league. Sure, someone said (not Karl) it's open to anyone who has the entry fee and pays for the 9 holes in the clubhouse.
Well, I drew Karl as my partner. He'd seen me around playing a few times, and I overheard him tell someone "Goddamn it, that Brent guy sucks. Who let him play anyway?" Thing is, I took it as a challenge and not a slam, and a couple years later him and I were playing golf with each other on a regular basis. He asked me to be in a tournament with him and Randy (the guy in the red shirt sitting in the cart who's a lefty) on the 6th, which is really kinda an honor because it's the third year in a row we've done this particular charity tournament and don't really have anything to show for the $120/person entry fee.

Congrats on your first ace :toast:
My late Grandfather got two holes in one. They were with in a week of being exactly 10 years apart.
Both of them were at Butter Valley Golf Port ( golf course with airstrip )
Butter Valley Golf Port: Golf Course, Airport (http://www.buttervalley.com/)
His first one was on the 13th hole. I forget the exact yardage but all you could see of where the green was where the flag was. He had a nice shot and when they went up the hill to the green, his ball was nowhere to be found. One of his buddies was busting his stones and said sarcastically "Go look in the hole".
There it was. :hurray: After the golf season was over, he got the flag from that hole and a very nice trophy type desk calendar /pen set piece. It had his name, date of the hole in one and a literal hole in the number one for the gold ball.
My closest was hitting the pin about 9" up at Twin lakes in Mainland, Pa but it bounced about 6' away.
