I'll not re-hash my recent stomach problems other than to say I completed my antibiotics for the diverticulitis. Those two horse-pills take the wind out your sails: Stomach pain, nausea, diarrhea. I finished taking them last Friday, 4 days ago. They have apparently killed not only the bad bacteria but also every good bacterium in my intestines.

Everyone says to eat yogurt, which I started Sunday. I'm noticing no difference, still have diarrhea, so I did some internet research. Guess what? There's no research to back up yogurt's claim of restoring good bacteria, even Greek yogurt. Well, there is a little research, but all funded by yogurt manufacturers.

What should I be taking?

Go spend a couple weeks with island14. Anything you eat there will destroy whatever is bad in you now. Then you have to find something to kill that.

Those were the days. :Jeff '79:

When I broke my ankles and the Doc prescribed oxy I asked for Rorer 714's. He laughed and said he was surprised I knew that. And that they don't mke them anymore.

I the told him I know. Rorer sold their manf. rights and I brlieve something called Lemmon 714 with Diazepam is available. He then was :skia: Ended up writing me the oxy and the Diazepam. :D

Good thing I was never into prescription drugs. My wife has a medicine cabinet that would kill Rush Limbaugh.:yesnod:

I would imagine that, just like with alcohol, some people can use drugs recreationally and have no problems, other than legal problems if caught.

This is true. Same goes for alcohol. It also takes a little bit (or a lot) of luck. I mean the not getting busted part. There are many times I would have been busted if I didn't look like Opie Taylor, and talked a good line of bullshit.

The secret about probiotics from yogurt is to choose an active culture brand. Not all is created equal. Check the label.

For other beneficial bacteria try any non pasteurized beer, raw milk if you are tolerant, goat's milk or breast milk if you can find a source. If you garden, don't wash whatever you pick next... simply brush off any soil particles and enjoy. Dirt is loaded with good bacterium and not terribly likely to contain a bad bug.

Any research that it works?

"Frozen yogurts tested for The Times by Certified Laboratories Inc. of Corona, Queens, confirm the newsletter's suspicion. For example, in a nonfat plain Dannon yogurt, there were 2.6 billion bacteria per gram. The closest any frozen yogurt came was Haagen-Dazs, with 130 million organisms per gram. "

However... You were supposed to be taking probiotics while ingesting the antibiotic. Atleast that is what I recall being told. It strips the good bacteria from your stomach, so the point is to prevent that... better later than never I guess. :cert:

I truly enjoy this yogurt, half a cup with granola hits the sweet spot.

I would be eating cats claw on a daily basis. I use it for microscopic colitis and it works for me.

It is not a probiotic but rather a natural supplement good for intestinal problems among other things. IT comes in a tablet form.
