Went out for a run during my morning workouts at work. went 4 miles, in that time, someone had dropped out a dog just outside of base. I knew he was deposited there because there was a giant pile of dog food and he has a collar.
then he followed me and finished my run, then followed me onto base.... then into the gym. My boss said take him home and clean him up. He smelled kinda bad
He's some kind of Pug mix, thinking pug beagle.
He's about 50 y/o or so, missing a few front teeth, slight limp.
got a ride in the vette.

I threw up an ad on CL saying where I found him. no replies.
I don't know though... there is a lot of animosity between him and my other dog
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v257/Wilson1911/20150504_163730_zpsomtykkep.jpg
and he's having trouble settling in

I'll probably hold on to him.
He's actually really well trained, and hasn't pottied in the house yet.
He snores like a freight train though.
his name is Don. Don Grundle.
Don because of inside joke at work, and Grundle because, well, just look at him.
Today, the owners contacted me through Craigslist. he is happy to be back with his family
TL;DR: found a dog outside base, probably going to keep him.

Good on you!
Give the old boy a chance at a couple of good years
A shelter will probably put him down since he will probably be considered unadoptable

The Pug/Beagle mix is very common. They call them Puggles, and that's what he looks like. I hope he works out for you.:seasix:

It might not hurt to see if he is microchipped. People that abandon their animals make me
Good on you for taking him in.

Good on you!
Similar story with one of ours. Introducing Dixie Dawg:
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d186/Air1070/photo-13.jpg
We have had her for about 4 years. She followed my wife home after walking our other dog Izzy. She had no collar, no microchip, Giardia Infection. We spent a week searching the neighborhood for lost dog signs and went to all of the local animal shelters and vet offices looking for posters and nothing. That's when we decided to call her our own.
She has extremely poor health unfortunately. She has severe gastro intestinal problems to this day, and requires about $250.00 per month in medication. We have spent close to 10 grand on this dog, I'm not joking. But she is a character, and we love her. :)

Yeah my MIL has one.
But his coloring is brindle. Neither pugs nor beagles have that.
French bulldogs do.
But i think his breed is just dog
Good on you for taking the little guy in. Other than being old, he may have some medical needs that the previous owner couldn't ( or wouldn't ) afford, and they saw this as a way to get the dog help. The big pile of food is a clue.

Well, I just returned him to his owners. He knew them as soon as he saw the car.
So he was microchipped then?
Fill in the details of the story please.

They answered the CL ad.
She said they were walking in the park, and he didn't have a leash on, he took off after something and she chased him but lost him. That was Sunday. She had been looking for him since, and had no idea what the food was from.
she knew his real name, and had pictures of him.

I think some people see a stray animal and think they are helping by at least giving it some food, even if they can't take it home and care for it. Probably someone thinking they were helping out the best they could.

Either that or the owner dumped the dog, with food, then changed their mind.
