View Full Version : The Worst Thing About Getting Old

Okay, besides that, the worst thing is remembering how cheap things used to be. Case in point: The Giants are debuting a new black jersey today. Being a fan, I would of course like to have one. But I know on my non-baller retirement income I can't afford the $85 dollars or so they would probably want for one. That's okay, I can live without it and life is still good.
But out of curiosity, I go on their website and lo and behold, the jerseys are not priced at $85. They are priced at $244! I guess when you win three World Series in five years the price of the merchandise goes up a bit.:yesnod:

Solution: Buy a hat :)
I stopped buying hockey jerseys about 10 years ago. They got ridiculous on pricing.
Can you start a Freddy Gray protest? That brings down prices a bunch.

Oh, I've got a hat. One I've had for over 20 years. It's a cheapie with the plastic adjustment band, but I like it for sentimental reasons. I've also got a new fitted hat that's the real deal. It was a gift from my son-in-law, and there's no way I would have it otherwise. I don't buy $50 baseball caps. I also have a fine selection of t-shirts purchased at either KMart or WalMart, the only two malls in the lowlife but beautiful county I live in. I've also got my orange rally towel. That was free. They were giving them out at one of the playoff games with the Cardinals last year.

I have considered a GoFundMe account to raise money for tickets to a few games this year.
many years ago i bought a case, 5000 rounds, of 22lr ammo, target velocity. still have some of it. for $110. :faint:
i now see boxes of 500 going for almost that much.
what happened to cheap ammo?
i'm having to cut way back on booze and hookers to afford ammo. and absolutely no gambling. :nono:

Expat internet business owners gentrifying the whole island, I suspect. I hear there's one guy over there that buys Christmas presents for hundreds of kids every year.:yesnod:

And that's another thing I noticed.. Toys were more expensive this past year.
I wonder if the price went up because they knew some stupid foreigner was going to come buy them all... and ask for a discount. :island14:

Have any of you been to a good butcher to buy a cut of meat lately? :nutkick::faint::pain:
Hopefully my garden produces good this year. That will at least offset some costs.

Yeah, I've noticed that. Especially the higher end stuff. For some reason Pork Butt is only 1.78 a lb. right now. I just spent about three days eating pulled pork sandwiches.:yesnod:
And my garden is bigger than ever this year and we got a real early start. Already picking peas.

Out of curiosity, I just did some calculating here..
We pay 170p per kilo now for pork, does not really mater what part as its all the same price.
Except they sell the skin separate sometimes at a lower price.
The rate is about 44/1 right now, but by the time I get it is is more like 43/1
So I am paying $1.80 per pound rounding it off.
Usually we just get pork chops or Pork belly, but if you don't go in the morning the good stuff is gone, and the pickings are then.
Fish depends on size, and what type, but the type that we usually buy is about 120p a kilo now, and wasn't long ago we were only paying 60/70p
The fish that I really like I don't know the name of, but use to be I could get it for 100p per kilo, I haven't seen any in awhile, but from everything else I am going to guess about 200/220 per kilo, like fresh Tuna, and that is buying it fresh off of the boats, right here at the seawall in my yard!...
If you go to the market, the prices are really jacked up over there. :yesnod:
