640 horsepower, Z06-engined 2016 CTS-V.

So, between the ATS-V, the CTS-V, the Hellcat twins, the Corvette, and the faster versions of the Mustang and Camaro- there's some serious American Iron out there right now.

Cadillac announced today that the most powerful road car in their history will go on sale this summer with a substantial base price increase over the old CTS-V, which usually went for around $70,000. With destination price the new car will be more than $84,000.

It’s also a lot more car than the old CTS-V, boasting nearly 100 additional horsepower, more torque at 630 pound-feet, and an all-new eight-speed automatic. No manual this time, sorry.

It’s admittedly a steep price for a Cadillac. But it’s quite a bit cheaper than its German competitors. A BMW M5 starts at $93,600, an Audi RS7 starts at $108,900, and a Mercedes E63 AMG starts at $101,700. The CTS-V is also a lot more powerful than those cars. Viewed that way, it may just be a steal.

Pass. No cache like the imports, not focused as narrowly as the Corvette.

I'm thinking if it depreciates like the German rides, it should be affordable before the warranty expires. :)

I'm also thinking out loud that there's a certain appeal of a high-end performance sedan that isn't German. In my hood, there are two CTS-V's (sedan and a Coupe). Up here, Mercedes, BMW, and Lexus's are a dime a dozen.

Everything is starting to look like a Jaguar...which isn't all bad.

Great American sleeper

It doesn't have the hp of this V but I still love cruising around in the '14 SS for that exact reason.

It is actually a LOUD car considering that it is 100% stock exhaust. It's fun watching people damn near snap their necks when they realize the sound they are hearing is from the "Malibu" beside them.

It is actually lighter and more nimble than it looks and drives more like a sports car than a luxury boat. All it needs is a S/C sitting on top of the LS3... :leaving:

I love the CTS platform! It's been dope from the get-go, IMO.

Very cool. 4 door, 200 mph sedan. Sub 4 seconds to 60.
