Well picked up my first revolver a couple weeks ago. I have had a fixation with finding a Dan Wesson revolver. I have a DW/CZ Valor 1911, since I picked that up, I have wanted a DW revolver.

Deal came up on one of the Facebook gun groups, I snagged it up quick! Drove 1.5 hour each way and got this.

Dan Wesson Model 14 .357 magnum "Porkchop"

The guy has had it for several years, his father before that. He just did not like revolvers and wanted to get something else.

Through some help from the fine folks at the Dan Wesson Forums, they dated it approximately to 1974. They suspect it could have been a state police issued gun. There is a lot of evident holster wear, but it does not look heavily fired.

Well, I wanted to open it up, because it sounded like this guy just had it tossed in the corner. It had some issues on the inside.

The issues had to be addressed, so the break down commenced.

Long soak in some transmission fluid, a little 0000 steel wool/rem oil for the really stubborn spots yielded these results...

I replaced the mainspring and have a few others on order. Looking forward to actually getting to shoot it.

Wow, that's probably the first time I've seen a revolver broken down that far. Interesting, and a bit troubling that it could have gotten to that point.

Some people just don't put in the time for maintenance...

I know nothing about Dan Wesson guns either. Smith and Wesson, yes. Like a signature series or something?

From Wikipedia

Daniel B. Wesson II (1916–1978) was the great-grandson[1] of one of the founders of Smith & Wesson, where he worked from 1938 until 1963. He earned his degree[2] in Material Science and Metallurgy and controlled the quality of his production strictly.

Company history
The company was founded in 1968 by Dan B. Wesson. Karl R. Lewis[3] invented the main features of Dan Wesson Revolvers. The company has seen lots of struggles and various changes in ownership[1] throughout its history.

Moist environment will do that; even if you thinks it's dry.
If nothing else, throw a bag of silica gel in gun case/cabinet/drawer.

Looks like it's gotten pretty wet at some point. Nice rebuild. Not going to re-blue it?

Probably not going to re-blue. The marks are part of the guns heritage, I think I'll leave it be for now.
