Gentlemen, did you see the article about the US using some of the PI military installations? Report: US, Philippines Agree on Base Rotations Along South China Sea | Military.com (http://www.military.com/daily-news/2015/04/27/report-us-philippines-agree-base-rotations-along-south-china-sea.html?ESRC=eb.nl)

Two of the specified bases, Antonio Bautista Air Base and Naval Station Carlito Cunanan in Palawan, would give the U.S. rapid access to the Spratly Islands, a collection of islets and reefs under dispute between the Philippines and China.

Besides the two bases in Palawan, the six other bases named by Catapang include Fort Magsaysay in Nueva Ecija; Crow Valley in Tarlac; Basa Air Base in Pampanga; Naval Station San Miguel in Zambales; and Benito Ebuen Air Base and Naval Base Rafael Ramos in Cebu.

Getting some heat in that part of the world, they want us back now.

I have flown into Naval Base Rafael Ramos - Same as the Mactan airport.

Looks really nice now that they have finished the renovations over there in the main terminal. I have not been over to the military side, but it is not a bad little airport.

As for China building these little islands, this is about stupid in those tsunami zones as well as the problems with earthquakes over there. It is a matter of time before those islands literally liquify and sink back into the ocean.

This is all a move so that China can get access to the oil fields that are reportedly under that area of the ocean. I have a feeling that China will end up being the nation that destroys this planet through over-consumption of the global natural resources. I can already tell you that the air quality over there is horrific.

I have mixed feelings because of the way PI dumped the US. Now they come crawling back because they could be under China's rule pretty damn quick.

Let PI handle their affairs themselves, as we mustn't "affront Philippine sovereignty".

Philippines Orders U.S. to Leave Strategic Navy Base at Subic Bay - NYTimes.com (http://www.nytimes.com/1991/12/28/world/philippines-orders-us-to-leave-strategic-navy-base-at-subic-bay.html)

December 28, 1991

Excerpts:

American and Philippine officials reached tentative agreement last summer on a treaty that would have extended the lease on the naval base for at least another decade in exchange for $203 million in annual aid. But the Philippine Senate rejected the treaty in September after an impassioned debate in which the American military presence was assailed as a vestige of colonialism and an affront to Philippine sovereignty.

But over the past month it has become clear in any case that the American military was reconciled to losing the base, and saw little use in dragging out the process. By the middle of 1993, most of the American personnel and much of the movable equipment would have been moved elsewhere, at a cost of billions of dollars, and sending them back would have probably proved prohibitively expensive.

"Once it begins, it is an irreversible process," a senior American official said today. "The bottom line is that we are gone."

Worried Philippines invite back the Americans they kicked out

Worried Philippines invite back the Americans they kicked out | National Post (http://news.nationalpost.com/full-comment/matt-gurney-worried-philippines-invite-back-the-americans-they-kicked-out)

Excerpt:

The President of the Philippines supported the treaty, and had agreed to it, but his senate shot it down. The base was a vestige of colonialism, the senators believed, and the Philippines would be better without foreign military forces stationed on its soil. The U.S. was ordered to withdraw from its facilities at Subic Bay by the next year. The U.S. complied, and the Philippines converted the facility, with its docks and airfields, into a trading zone.

There are none of the US built facilities left worthy of returning to. We've gone elsewhere, as you insisted.

Perhaps we can send some of these:

The current administration has started a "Pivot towards Asia" or some other shift in focus.

The whole deal kinda pisses me off.. As China is just trying to be a Hog over the whole area and what Oil they think might be out there..

But in reality those Islands are so out there I don't care who wants to live on them Tom Hanks ship wrecked ass style..

There is really nothing out there on those Islands...

.. it's kinda like watching two birds scrap over a piece of bread that no one wanted or cared about till they heard.. OIL!!!!!

Back in the late 50's or 60's some guy claimed it as his own as no one else wanted it, and declared it his own independent country.. wasn't even much flack over that from either side.

But when you look how far away China is.. and the whole sea they want to say is theirs almost up to our shores... China sure is flexing their mussels and trying to be boss.

It's going to be trouble down the road, and the US will keep stirring the pot.. :yesnod:

From what I heard.. and it sounds pretty likely...

Was, that the US had been paying rent to the Philippines for their bases for years.

The .gov guys here wanted to up the rent, kinda normal around here once they think they can make more money from a foreigner as they always think they will pay... even if it cost them all without thinking. :yesnod:

The US declined thinking they no longer really needed them anymore as their aircraft has much longer capabilities these days and has other bases that do as well, like Guam and Japan. :island14:

Politicians here are really no different than in the US (Full of shit) and once they knew the whole deal was in the can.. they decided to say, hey we don't want them here anymore and we demand they leave
(Trying to show all the voters how BOSS they were... but knowing themselves that they were already on the way out)

The people here are in a lot of the ways the same as the people USA, they have no control over what their GOV does, and they just go through life wishing things were different. :island14:

You may hear that a few minority squack that they want to be dependent, but I can assure you that most all of the people here feel safe knowing that the US has their back.

I have heard time and time again from the people I have met personally how much they really do appreciate what the US did for them in WW2, and McArther is still a frigging HERO here! :yesnod:

Amazes me that most all have forgotten the American Philippine wars way back when, and think of them as their hero.

But then again, that's just how the friendly people are here, they don't hold a grudge even against the Japanese anymore..

But by the way.. I also heard that while the US was moving out of Clark back when they moved out..

They were also moving in tons of barrels of Toxic waste that they dumped there.. and left behind....
