Take I 20? from DFW out west to ElPaso....goes through Midland/Odessa the Texas oil fields.....

that land has stunk for many a thousand years now, the cracks/fizzures in the earth allow natural gas and oil fumes to stink it up but good for hundreds of miles .....in fact oil is/was? just basically under the dirt layer....

Ask Tinkerbell in Texas...over 'there'.....

I drove that road some 20 years ago with my buddy from FW....
