OMG, what an abomination.
People ask me to go to concerts all the time these days.
That is exactly why I don't go.
I graduated HS in '81 and VH was HOT. We cruised in our fast car with it cranked and they are the reason that I have hearing loss.
I saw VH when DLR swung/ swam across the stage on a rope in 1979 or 1980.
Why ruin the memory by seeing them this summer?
Same as the Stones... No go, no way. They're in Buffalo on July 18th.
I saw them prior to the Steel Wheels tour, which sucked btw, and they were really good in '82.
Deep Purple on the other hand is coming to town and I might just have to see them again..... :D
Hang it up VH. You sound like chit!

The Who in '82, in Rich Stadium where the Bills play, was the best concert that I ever attended.
It actually sprinkled when they did Love Reign On Me. It was surreal. Yep. The Clash and The Who in '82.... Wow
Mick Jagger actually mentioned it when they Rolled into town later that summer.

VH is going to be in Cincinnati at the end of August... I've never had the opportunity to see them - even in their hayday. My 16 year old wants to see them badly. Dream Theater was probably the best show I have ever seen. Absolutely amazing. We drove 5 hours to Greensburg, PA to see the show. And my son took one of his guitars that John Petrucci signed. Absolutely amazing.

My wife's best friend, who looks like Heather Locklear, and her husband knows John Petrucci and have been backstage with them during a few of their concerts, one being in Cleveland.
I saw them with him and didn't care for them. It's one of his favorite bands too, but for whatever reason, I wasn't into it. Too many whiney solos and singing forays for my taste.
We did have fun though. :D

Same here. Fox Theatre - built for acoustics and pretty small. The same place Gone With The Wind made it's debut. Stray Cats opened for the Stones. I liked them at the time, but people booed the crap out of them. They played a set or two, lights went back up, Take The A-Train was playing over the system when they dimmed the lights again. That unmistakeable Under My Thumb riff started and they were on-stage and playing. Keef had a jacket on and you would have thought it was a straight jacket lol He had a heck of a time trying to take it off. Still have my swag. I had to buy bootleg tickets, but it was well worth it!
If you search yt for 'Rolling Stones Double Door' there are some good clips from a show they played there. I still like them best with Mick Taylor and earlier stuff.

I saw them in 1980. JFK. Festival seating. We were on the infield in front of the stage. It was literally asshole-to-belly button.
At one point, I stood on top of a cooler. And then could not step down. There was no ground available to step down on. :willy:

George Thorogood and J Geils opened for them at Candlestick park when I saw them in '81. Audio problems spoiled the Thorogood set, but J Geils (one of my favorite live bands) was very good.
I've been standing up front at concerts at Winterland in San Francisco and if you passed out you would not have fallen down it was so packed. I can't believed how crazy we were and how much fun we had back then.

And first off, I am a fan of David Lee Roth w/ Van Halen
The band is fine, they are tight.
The vocals? Roth needs to hang in the towel. :leaving:

WTH happened to his nose? Did one of the brothers pound him for doing something stupid?
I saw them on their last tour. The opening band was Kool and the Gang. That was the highlight. It was the WORST vocal performance on the planet. DLR cannot sing a single note. He was all over the map. Bad timing, wrong words, voice cracking right out of the gates. Then in the middle was some self-indulgent video of "Farmer Dave" and his dogs. I would have rather the entire show be an instrumental. All that I have said is from a DLR fan. I thought there was no Van Halen without DLR. Now there isn't one with him.

I've always thought of DLR as more of a showman, personality and dancer than a pure singer. I've heard him say himself the reason he got in the band is he was areal night club animal in the 70s and a popular dancer. He said he knew every night club owner in the LA area and could get the band gigs. They were obviously great musicians but they needed an outgoing personality to front the stage show and he filled the bill. Very well, I might add.
He kind of grew up in the business, his uncle was a prominent night club owner in New York. He owned Café Wha? where Jimi Hendrix was noticed early on.
