I remember them well. My older brothers had the 45 records. Great music, it really got your attention when it came on the radio.:seasix:

Somewhat interesting story about Frankie Laine: Mel Brooks contracted with Laine to write and sing the theme song for Blazing Saddles. Brooks of course mentioned nothing about the film being a comedy/farce, so Laine proceeded to write and sing a very serious song. Laine thought it was a dramatic western. Mel was worried Frankie wouldn't sing it with conviction if he knew the truth.

45s were pretty cheap if I remember right, about a buck or less, and the parents had one of those portable players. :yesnod:

Yeah, 45s were 79-99 cents. Sounds cheap, but you have to put it in the perspective of my allowance being .25 a week. My parents didn't have much interest in music and there was no "family" record player. I had twin brothers six years older than me and around 1959 for Christmas they got a portable stereo record player with detachable speakers for their bedroom. It was a really big deal and I was totally jealous, but they used to let me listen to it. I guess it was some compensation for them having to share a bedroom while I had my own. Sometimes I think they still resent me for that.:yesnod:
Things have sure come a long way. Now I think of just about any song and I go to Youtube and listen to it.
