Back in the early 80s I was standing in my kitchen having a beer watching the thunder storm when lightning struck next to the neighbors house about 150 yards away.

I said "holy shit that was close" , then the lights went out. For the next 8 hours. Thre lightning hit an oak tree, a limb broke off and took out all the wires on the pole.

The reaction of the guy playing with the rock is priceless.

Been close before, within 150 feet or so. It was loud.
But not as close as the guy rolling the rock in that vid.
Surprised he didn't get cooked.

I'm rethinking my whole "I'm ready for spring" mantra. Can we just skip to mid summer?

At least you can see or hear a tornado before it kills you.

:iagree: Same as a hurricane. You have time to get the f'k out of the way.

I have seen lightning strike within 50 feet of me. It is the weirdest thing. Usually you see the lightning and then hear the thunder. Not so when it strikes close. The crack of thunder is instantainious with the lightning and will scare the living carp out of you. It's not like the sound of normal thunder in the distance. Just like the comments by the video tapers above. BTDT Don't want to ever experience it again.

Was it a lucky shot, or were you waiting on the lightning?

Was it a lucky shot, or were you waiting on the lightning?

Was storming like a mofo, as it always does in Florida in the summer. My mom was in town, so I can pinpoint the year, as she only comes every other year for my daughter's birthday.

I took the camera out (Nikon D100) and captured the shot. Several strikes had already occurred, I got lucky, but I knew the rainbow was there.

I need to photoshop the rain drops out of the pictures and submit it to a picture contest I think.

Here is the only other photo I've ever taken that I'm proud of.

That little sucker on my daughter's head ran up her leg and onto her head. I had enough time to run in and out of the house trying several different lenses (at LEAST 5) until I caught this shot. Pretty cool for such a young girl to not be freaked out by a lizard on her body.

I was pretty close one time. Was sitting in a covered porch when I noticed sparks arching across the storm drains. For a brief moment, I was like, WTF? And then WHAM !!!!!! Blacked out for a couple of seconds. Was pretty neat but I'm not interested in a repeat.

I being a olde tyme electronics geek, from WAY back, find it kind of strange about this attraction lightening has with finding my ass here in Orange Park Florida.....I was here maybe a year or so when lightening took out what the climbers said was the tallest tree on the hill....~3' diameter oak.....still got the stump remnants, took the computer, tv, stereo, phones, the works, fried the underground phone lines.....went comcast......

just last JUNE? it hit again, another tall tree across the street in Scott's back yard.....wiped his shit out but good, took my wife's computer and comcast gear for 3 modems and two routers to get the service back.....

it even managed to wound her laptop and it was not even ON....go figger.....
it'w wireless ......

I saw the ~5pm flash in the front window and it was DARK out....really DARK....but not THAT nanosecond....

the first flash was 515 in the MORNING years ago...blew me outta bed, and the totally KRAZY thing is....I remember looking down on my laying there.....

it was in the backyard with me in the front bedroom, lit up like 10 suns and no roof....mutha ducker.....

I think that electrickery is out to get me.....

Daughter is a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. She'll do just fine. Her future suitors will need to first beat her at the track. She has been a frequent passenger in my race-preped Z06 and will be racing it the day she gets her license.

She learned to drive the Z06 at 11, manual transmission and all. :yesnod: She got it on the first try.

Mom, on the other hand, has not learned how to drive a stick in our 19 years together.

I been hammered BAD so many times, no one would believe if I said....

I have had RF H/Voltage burn a hole right through my thumb nail....been wacked by 30 kv off pix tubes many times, knocked back off the seat by damper RF, that has some fairly serious amps to it.....
hit by 800 vac from arm to arm long time ago.....wacked by neon sign transformers.....no damn wonder lightening struck twice around this house.....

Hell, I remember a tree fell from Dad's back yard when I was age 12, looking out the front dining room window....hit the power lines across the street, the high KV lines arching in the rain shooting serious light all over the street out front, lasted damn near a minit.....Hurricane Hazel, '56 outside Wash Dc.....

Seriously, I fully expect that's how I will die, run outta lives....

heh....I remember learning to drive on a WW2 Generals Jeep, used as a farm tractor for a farmette, out in what was then RURAL Rockville Md,....outside DC....age 13 or so....

The sports stuff is interesting in that I dated a chick here in Florida who had a daughter that was working at the US Marshall's service, typically courthouse guard....well so it seemed she was on loan to the DEA, I looked at her with WIDE eyes, she said not to worry, daughter used to run track and field, and when the drug bust went down, they'd all take off running, but she would set her pace and outlast them......somehow methinks my daughter better off in her home office apartment, .....I think both of the kids should move to Florida, more opportunity here to own a house and get a decent enough JOB, then Baltimore and Oakland Ca.....much less TAXES.....
they get their heads bloodied enough, they figger it out, I hope/suppose.....
