Well, things got real shitty over the past few months. Woman troubles, other issues, etc... I ditched the woman. Everything else is working itself out.

Now, the woman and I have a mutual friend who is a bodybuilder and trainer. I've finally gotten healthy enough to where I've been able to lay off the pain meds and actually do some physical activity beyond what Physical Therapy has limited me to in the past. I now think physical therapy is a joke.

Dude put me on a weight gain and mass building program maybe 8 weeks ago. I've been on a 3 day rotation and go 4-5 times a week now. one day is upper body, the next is lower, then back, then cardio (cardio optional based on the super sets he has me doing) so I do a routine once after 3 days of resting those muscle groups. Abs is an every day thing. So far, I've tightened my belt two notches and put on weight. That's a miracle seeing as how I've been hovering at a scrawny 145-150 for years. i feel better and my mind is a lot more clear, so I've actually become a gym rat over the last six to 8 weeks. Hopefully within a year I can be featured on "pumping up with Hans and Franz."

I'll do the scary before pic with updates later, though. heh heh.... what will be seen cannot be unseen :D

Working out as much as i hate it and avoid it like the plague really does wonders for your mind and body :yesnod: Glad things are improving!

Little by little and same with the workout thing too. The guys in my band are into this positivity thing and always look for the positive in everything. I do a daily FB post about the positive stuff I see every day just to see how it works out and I've noticed in 43 days of doing it that my attitude has changed. They say they've noticed it and a lot of the women I know have too. That's good and I feel better.

Don't get me wrong, I still can be set off quicker than a liberal being told everyone gets free speech :D Been dealing with my issues from afghanistan too, but that's slow. About 3 weeks ago, some douche I absolutely despise decided to sneak up on me as a joke (or so he said...I think he wanted to see what would happen) and put his hands around my throat at a bar I go to for dart league/tournaments. Now, i hadn't been drinking and don't remember anything about what happened.but my friends I was with said it got bloody real fast and I was talking like i was still in the Army. LAst thing i remember was a friend driving me home in my car. i didn't get barred since the place is full of vets who know I've got issues too and that dude is a douche of such epic proportions he could cleanse a whale's vaj.

I just joined a club. Company pays the membership fee ($1,000) and half the monthly fees (wife and myself).

real nice place. beach side. gym. tennis. racquet. indoor pool. 2 outdoor pools. beach front cabana bar.

problem is...

The beach side beer and burgers I'll be consuming will offset any gains I make in fitness and weight loss. :Jeff '79:

Holy hell, does this gym offer massages with the happy endings after a good work out too?

I was born with bones, muscles and joints that were designed to make a large but finite number of movements before they fail. I'm not wasting it on exercise.:leaving:

I owned a gym for a year. Many of my customers were fat people trying to lose weight. They were diligent, many of them worked out daily and really put a lot of effort into it. None of them ever got skinny. Not. One.:yesnod:

I'm not fat but could stand to loose a few in the gut. But basically joined for the pool and the Tiki bar. :Jeff '79:

The trainer I'm working with swears by free weights, super sets, and switching up routines. He says it helps build strength and muscle with proper diet and switching muscle groups forces the heart to work itself pumping blood to different muscle groups. Makes sense because everyone I see on the cardio and "nautilus" machines never makes progress. So, I'll trust his advice. So far so good. Now I can't bench press a truck...maybe a hot weeks truck, but I'm working on getting better and so many people at this gym are helping. If I do something wrong they are quick to help with technique, don't suggest deviating from my plan, and never judge about how little weight I have to use sometimes. The rule is everyone had to start somewhere, leave the ego at the door, and if you are putting in honest effort they will help....free. explains why the gym only employs one trainer. Ha ha.

Well, hiring a trainer and getting in shape can be a good thing to do. I am not familiar with whatever chronic ailment(s) you may have, but keep in touch with your doctor about what you are doing at the gym. Consult with your doctor about any diet supplements, vitamins, etc. that you are using. I've seen bad results with people who do otherwise. I'm not an expert in this field, just telling you what I've seen. I've met trainers who think they know more than doctors. Best of luck and good health to you, DJ.:seasix:

Glad to hear things are going better for you DJ!

Thanks.

A couple months ago when the shit really hit the fan, I decided to change. I had one particular bullet... it was mine and just for me... that I gave away. Three times I'd been knocked out by friends who saw me load it and go for it, but I'm glad they were around. Was probably just a cry for help since I am not quick to really talk to anyone or ask for help, but I'm glad they were there. Twice when I was in TX and maybe a year ago. I'd thought about those times and called over a good friend here, explained it, and gave her that round. She said she fired it off at the range for me so it can never be used again. Like i said, there were lots of f*cked up things going on upstairs, but I'm dealing with them.

the job is good. The tech support department here at the campus I work on was messed up and since I took over in September, we've managed to do more work, actually FIX issues, and re-organize the support structure than had been done by my predecessor in the last two years. It's really amazing how lazy he was. And i actually like my job. The pay could be better, but I pay $25.00/wk for full medical, dental, vision, get two weeks of PTO, get a week off for spring break, 1.5 for christmas break, and a 36 hour work week in the summer semester. So, the pay could be better but the benefits are great and I didn't even get into the retirement plan.

Sounds like your trainer knows what he's talking about. :seasix:

And yeah, I think physical therapy is pretty much a joke too.

I had my shoulder surgery in 2007, the Army moved me to Ft. Hood 30 days after and it took another 60 to get an appointment to get back into therapy. My shoulder froze. Despite doing phys therapy religiously every week from that point on until I was medical retired, I got absolutely no better and was worse off than before the surgery. In just 6 weeks of ignoring the quacks (especially the ones at the VA who must have stock in the pain pill industry), I've gotten more strength, gained weight in the right areas, and have started losing the beer belly I was nurturing. Granted, laying off the booze has helped, too, but I still go out and see what limitations my liver has from time to time.
