... but for any of you that may have been following my folk's RV saga, they just got slammed with another $2100.00 bill. This for work that was covered by a warranty. You don't want to know what it would have cost without it.
They are about $27k deep in repairs and the well has run dry. I am no longer able to help them and they no longer have the savings to help themselves.
I am embarrassed for them and they would probably be both grateful and mortified at what I have done.
I started a gofundme account for them. I set it up in December and have done nothing but find every way to avoid it until now. I came to the realization that I will do nearly anything short of breaking the law to help them.
I hate myself for asking this, but if anyone can give 50 cents, it would be appreciated. I just have to swallow pride and ask.
I have never done this before and I will never do it again, but desperate times mean desperate measures.
Here is the link: Help my retired parents by Jeff D - GoFundMe (http://www.gofundme.com/RVParents)
... and here is the long drawn out saga for those of you that want to read the ugly details.

Good luck getting things going again! So once they do get it back are they selling it, or will they be saving a bit more and start hitting the road again?

I COMPLETELY understand. I read that whole BEAZT thread and lost 50 bucks myself. That thread was the number one reason I was so hesitant to post the link. One ass has to ruin it for everyone. I will gladly post the latest work order but it is written in code. It totals $11,615.00 which is only the Waco invoice. Some of that was covered by warranty. The amount they owe just from this specific repair is $2100.00 but my mom is going to call them to find out how they even arrived at that number. Mind you, two days ago they said it would not be a thousand dollars. Technically, that was true. Now all the prior receipts aside from my credit card charge is in the RV. If you want to see a copy of my CC charge, I can provide that too.
Whatever it takes to convince you this is not a scam, I will do it. I wish it was because then it would be all about me and not them. It breaks my heart that they are in this position in the twilight of their lives.
Thank you a MILLION times over for even a PENNY contributed. I can't say it enough.
The goal I set is lofty, but literally every single dollar helps. I have about a thousand I have been putting aside for a TV I had my eye on and I am giving it to them. TVs are suddenly unimportant to me.

I understand. I appreciate that you were willing. :cert:
We are keeping them warm and fed and those are the critical needs. I just want to get them on their feet again and self sufficient.
The amount I set as the goal is optimum but literally every penny is valuable and if it never gets close to the goal, then so be it. This forum and CF are the only two where I have any activity and I don't do facebook or anything so my expectations are pretty low even though the goal is lofty.
The amount in there now will fill their propane tank and put some diesel in it to get it to Houston. That's certainly a start. :seasix:

I'd still question 2 weeks labor to fix ANYTHING.
Well, outside a restoration.

You don't know the half of it. Trust is an interesting term. You really want to have it, but when you do, people will ruin it for you.
They trusted the salesman and they trusted the repair shop. They got seriously robbed because of that trust.
I am far more cynical, but by the time I got involved, the damage was done.

This shop got the truck after the first motor was put in correct?
Operation 1 was a new motor...they really didn't replace the turbo with the motor?!?!
Turbo Replacements
1 on Operation 2 on the invoice appears to be replacing turbo via warranty claim
2 on Operation 4 appears to be replacing the turbo yet again but this time out of pocket?
3 on the new $2,100 bill is another turbo replacement?
Including the original turbo in less than a thousand miles they're on their 4th turbo?

My understanding is this (I will get clarification now that you mention this)
The replacement engine (Engine 1) was order with a new turbo because the original from the factory engine was shot.
When engine 1 failed, I "don't think" they replaced the turbo, but instead pulled it off engine 1 and put it one engine 2.
After the install of engine 2, they test drove it and determined the turbo was bad.
Now based on what you are reading, it is possible that engine 2 came with a new turbo and that turbo also failed.
A decoder was not offered with the invoice so it is hard to tell without some dialogue with the shop.
I'm still pissed that they were told it would not be a thousand dollars and they may have to pay for just the replacement oil...and then this chit.

I'd study this, along with VBOT expertise input, and go to the shop with your parents and new found knowledge and question everything.
Depending on the findings, it may or may not work, but worth the shot.
Fixing something doesn't mean "We'll pay for your trial and error to figure it out"
That's what they're paid $120/hr to do. Joe Bob down the block can do the same for 1/10th that.

You are all amazing. They are going to be blown away by this. Once it breaks $1000.00 (and I hope it will) I will let them know what is being done. They need $2150.00 to bail the RV out of the repair shop. If it can come from the gofundme, that would be awesome.
Anything over $1150.00 in gofundme is just a blessing and will help them on a personal level aside from getting this thing back to Houston. I will give them the other $1000.00.

I edited my reply :seasix:
Tell your parents yet?
I went upstairs with them after dinner and we planned to watch a movie. I set up the movie and told them before it started that I had something I needed to share.
This is (about) what I said...
"When you think there is little good left in the world, people come through and prove you wrong. I want to tell you what happened in the last 48 hours but first I want to tell you how it how it happened. I belong to two Corvette forums. One for about 14 years and one for about 4 years. Except for one person I actually met, I communicate with the other members on line only and they are spread all over the country...the globe actually. I have been sharing your story mostly because it is so unbelievable, but also looking for some insight or feedback or ideas on what could be done. A member told me that I should start a fundraiser and I considered it, but I kept talking myself out of it. When you told me they were scalping you for another $2150.00 I decided I had to pull the trigger. I sort of passed around an "electronic" hat and I am amazed and happy to tell you that they pulled together and raised over $1600.00 to help you out. The money raised was all raised in 48 hours and it is yours as soon as the funds transfer".
My mom's jaw dropped and the tears began to flow as I knew they would. They were both absolutely speechless. They hugged each other, they hugged me and my mom just could not believe it. She just shook her head and said she just did not know what to say. I told her that you all are special people and even though tempers flare and people poke at each other and have different political views or personal views, in times of trouble, you all pull together and help. As I was saying it I was realizing just how special that is.
We are joined here because of a material thing...a Corvette...but we stay here for the communication and the relationship and the associations built across thousands of miles and many years. I know I am getting all sappy, but you have to know it is unavoidable when I see the joy this brought to my folks. We watched the movie and I just said goodnight to them and my dad, who is a man of few words, thanked me and said for once his spirits are lifted for a change.
You all made that happen and I am forever grateful. You are now family whether you like it or not :seasix::cert:
I wish I could personally shake each and every hand of each of you that gave. Just know that my gratitude is sincere and runs deep.

Nice! I think the success of things like this is that 100% of it goes towards it's intended purpose. It's not like a 3 cents of every dollar sort of thing. It makes a real impact in someone's life.

LOL, yes, there are no "executive salaries" deducted.
I know that gofundme takes a portion, but I'm taking care of that too. It is a pittance in the grand scheme of things.

There were donations coming in as recently as about an hour ago, but the grand total is $2900.00.
I went to the bank at lunch and got it all so unless I get robbed on the way home, they will get the cash tonight.
They are leaving to pay the ransom...errr I mean the "bill" on Monday.
I will post a pic when they get back with it. :seasix:
I will officially close the gofundme when they have made it safe and sound back to Houston.
Thank you again to everyone that contributed. You will never imagine the impact of what you have done. :seasix:

I am waking up this dead thread for an update. I wanted to report that all appears to finally be repaired correctly for a change. My folks traveled to Pittsburgh to stay with my cousin for a while and then they went to Atlanta and finally back to Houston for Mother's day and will be hanging in town for a while building up funds until they can head out again. Dad says the oil pressure is great, mileage is as expected and it handled the ups and downs of all the mountains very well. :seasix:
Just wanted to catch everyone up and say once again...Thank you. :cert:

Possibly. Every thread over there turns to crap in about 5 posts so I'll have to think about it first.
