Remember- those are the guys that you call if you have a problem. Reasonable price if you lose power during the winter or a storm.
In our area, we can choose our provider but PEPCO is our distributor. They have spent a shitload burying lines, so I'm happy to pay the distribution charge.

I haven't actually seen my power bill in years...I get notice of how much it is, I go to my bank site and enter that amount and schedule the payment.

The last time I even looked at it was when it was unusually high when it shouldn't have been...turned out my outside unit had quit working properly and the coils were going all the time for emergency heat.

Each year they send out a letter showing your average consumption and then compare it to other homes in the area so I do check that and see where we stand. But month-to-month? Nope.

So, just curious, what's the difference between power bills in Houston and in NY? I'm assuming the square footage of your houses are similar.

it's 1300sqft, two levels+basement.
electricity and gas averages $40 each. I've really only been in the house in the winter though. (gas this last month has been $100, but it's freezing)

2600 sq ft, single level in TX
Gas was far cheaper in Texas, rarely did we pay more than $20
electric in the summer was usually around $100
