have such low mileage. I see that LisaJohn is looking at a 2000 model with 36K miles on it. That's just one example, but far from unusual. If they were, say, my '67 I could better understand the mileage because, frankly, I'm ready to get out of that loud beast after an hour, but newer Vettes are pretty comfortable handling and riding. :confused5:

Because weekend toys. I have never understood it myself. Coming up on 150k on my 99 when I finally am able to drive it again. This year. Sometime. Maybe about May or June. :leaving:
my 98 had 125k+ when i sold it in 2010.

yeah, I had 125 Gs on my '93 before it got hit and totaled. I wanted to drive that thing for 250...stupid people:kick:

My 97 has 83k. It had 60k when I bought it. We have driven it to the beach several times. I drove it yesterday.
And now I have to store it for the winter tomorrow and Tuesday.

Because too many Vette owners would rather put more miles on their polishing cloths than the odometer.
They think that C5/C6 with ultra low miles is going to be worth big bucks
Most Vette owners use them as toys, hobby car, garage queens, low mileage for better sell/trade-in numbers, yada-yada....
Not me, it's a damn car, a form of transportation, mine is a daily driver all year long. They clean up well too.

That's funny real winter storage up here is about 4-5 months.A big reason why most vettes up here are low mile toys.

AND rust buckets.......MY vette got lucky in that the P/Owners made a show out of it, so even with ~130k on the clock, that '72 vert was 23 y/o when I bought it, thing sat in the garage most of the time, and even then the car was somewhat restored when it was painted last time by them.....took off the interior crap to buy new in '95 and it was all rusted out...not the FRAME, but the metal structure of the interior header/liners I went ape shit over the structure, but found it fine....so I sealed it up but good.....long day underwater before THAT w/s A pillar ever rust out.....
Chassis seems to be a survivor also.....been all over that through the years....Since '95 I doubt I put 50k on the thing.....but it's been a FUN 50k......quicker than average.....especially with the old farts down here that can't DRIVE.......:issues::dance:

Mine sits for 4 months a year, and with NY roads I can't drive it everywhere, especially NYC. Other than that, I drive it as much as possible. But it's not my only car either, and I like driving my X5 diesel as well.
couldn't justify a truck (for hauling stuffs) AND a corvette (which would largely sit most of the time, as i have nowhere i have to go everyday), so just a truck presently, with about 18k since May 2013. 80 miles today, have to head to ABQ tomorrow to pick up some floor tiles for the bath remodel - about 100 mi RT. then 0 miles for the rest of the week. :DAB:

I had my '05 for over four years and put 35K on it. Year round driver here, and at times it was my daily driver. Not afraid to drive it in the rain, either. Actually, when you think about it, with the traction control/active handling it's an excellent rain car. I felt safer in that car than just about any car I've ever owned.
There's a guy in my old car club that has an '02 Z06 that has less than 2K on the odometer. To me that makes as much sense as not having sex with your wife because your saving her for her next husband.
I think people see low miles muscle cars from the 60s bringing big bucks at the auctions. They think they will make a fortune selling the car one day, and wish they had saved cars they once had. But that formula doesn't fall into place when you are in your 60s or 70s and will be long dead when your new Corvette is 50 years old with low miles. Corvettes from 30 years ago still aren't worth their original sticker price.
I put over 15k on the 2 06's I had in less than a year.
In many cases the Vette is a third or forth car in the family.

dual purpose. But this is why I'm suspect of low mile cars. My 2010 Grand Sport had 12K miles. But 7000 were track miles. So buyer beware.

I've never understood that either. My '93 had nearly 200k on it when I sold it, though, so it was obviously not a garage queen.
The '01 C5 I'm hoping to buy when this cold crap leaves currently has 125k on it. I intend to remedy that with a 120 mile a day commute at least two weeks a month, plus weekends and two day a week on the off weeks. :)
Given my commute, I can actually justify it to my wife, as long as it doesn't die on me.:D

I know where you can get a 2000 with 36k miles.

02-15-2015, 7:58pm
My take is that most Vette owners have 2-3 cars and don't use the Vette as a DD. True of me (Although the '06 has 44k on the clock.)

As much as I'd love that- I'm a cheapskate. Majorly. I've bargained the dude down to a point that I can't pass it up. I had intentions of buying a decent LT4 car until I found this C5 by accident. It looks very nice- except the nasty aftermarket fixed headlights that will go away as soon as my pocket book recuperates from the purchase of the car.

I've got an '02 Trans Am Ram Air with 5K original miles. It gets driven in the subdivision every couple of months, just to keep everything going.

Add in kids and weekends at games, dance class, visiting relatives and friends and you cut the time you can drive a 2 seater.
Too many waxers, not enough drivers.
I'm the 4th owner of my '01. Bought it at about 27k and 8 years old. So the first 3 owners manages to put on less than 3k miles per year.
I'm coming up on 150k miles after a little more than 5 years.
Sucks to be one of the first three that didn't enjoy it for what it is.

It had 123,000 when I bought it from Snide back in 2008... I would be sick at the depreciation hit they take and have no miles to show for it if I could ever afford new.

My 04 Ranger had 17 miles on it when I picked it up. I drive it every day and it just turned 62K. I live just over 2 miles from work though... some people just don't go far on the average day.
There's a guy on Renntech that has 420K on his '03 911 Turbo.

I bought my '07 in Sept of '11. Was 4 yrs old, only 8k miles. Had it for about 3 yrs now, and hit 78k miles. Yeah, I drive it!
Mine doesn't get driven much in the winter because the heat barely works, and the old style headlights don't make it much fun to commute into work in the dark.

I put about 5k on my mustang a year roughly.
IMO it's all about where you are in life and financial security. We have 3 cars.. If I detail my mustang and it rains for a week I'm not driving it until the weather clears because im lazy as fu(k and I don't want to clean it again especially when I have a nice DD in my truck.
Additionally you have to look at the vette demo. 90% of em have their AARP cards. Retired people don't have anywhere to go except to early bird special spots, bingo, doctor appointments, and funerals.. Hence the low miles.

That kept the miles off my weekend rides when I was in NY. Like clockwork every thanksgiving I would bump my insurance down to just liability store it and April fools day I would bump my coverage back up. 6-7 months a year worth of driving kept the mileage down wether I wanted to or not.

For a lot of us, and I've owned at least one ever since I was 17, they've never been daily drivers. i've always owned another vehicle (truck) that was my daily work horse. The vettes were always for entertainment driving, weekend cruisers, or date night cars. :seasix:

I would bump my insurance down to just liability Did you find your parked cars were likely to cause damage to others? :Jeff '79:
I think you mixed the terms up... Most people drop to comprehensive coverage only when cars are in storage. Liability doesn't cover your own vehicle.

My 2002 C5 convertible has about 18,400 on it. It's always been my third vehicle, it's in great shape, and I drive it when it makes sense. I've driven it to Chicago a couple of times, to Bowling Green, and all over this area. But I work at home, and don't drive a bunch in general. I had a '97 Expedition for 13 years and put a whopping 85k on it, and it was my "daily driver."
So that's my deal.

It doesn't make a lot of sense, but in 20 years, I have only put about 3,000 miles on my 63. I don't drive it in the winter or the hot part of the summer. When I do drive it, it is usually less than 25 miles total for the day ......usually to a Corvette club event.
I have a 63 Impala SS, that I put about 700 miles a year on....it is mIuch better for driving, and holds more than 2 people.
If I had a new one, I would drive it a lot. :seasix:
