What do all of you take when the weather is playing havoc with your joints? I usually can get by with little more than Tylenol. However it is starting to get to the point where Tylenol and Vicodin just aren't cutting it. Clelbrex is out due to a Kidney transplant. I am sitting here at the station and right now I feel like my entire left side i in a huge vice. Enlighten me, what is you pain med of choice?

Sinuses. The stronger the low, the more likely I will be clogged up.

Can't take Ibuprofen for the same reason as the Celebrex. Aleve would be great though from what I hear. Already taking aspirin.

:skep: Aleve, Ibuprofen, and Aspirin are all NSAIDS. Why can you take Aspirin, but not the others? (Maybe on low dose Aspirin?) They all have bleeding and stomach risks.

Have you tried Glucosamine? It works for a lot of people, no personal experience with it.

I'd also stay away from Opiates as much as possible for many reasons.

Only take Glucosamine and Chondroitin if you are not a diabetic or in the risk group for diabetes. It has been reported that it can kill off insulin producing islet cells.
Have you ever checked with a Rheumatologist, they might be able to put you on a light dose of steroids (again if you aren't a diabetic) or some other drugs that you can use?

I take one aspirin a day now for cardiac issues. I had three cardiac stents placed back in 1998.

Ibuprofen relieves pain by interfering with the body’s production of prostaglandin, a substance involved in inflammation. But at the same time, the drug constricts blood flow.

Normally, the change poses little risk if used for a short period. But for those whose blood flow to the kidneys is already reduced by kidney, heart or liver damage, flu, or aging, ibuprofen could lead to acute kidney failure.

As far as Glucosamine, I haven't asked my doctors what the risks involved are. But hey if it will work and I don't endanger the transplanted organs, I am all for it.

I've always had really good results with Excedrin - it's a cocktail of aspirin, acetaminophen, and caffeine.

I don't have weather-related pain. My hips and my right knee hurt pretty much all the time :)

Ibuprofen prn.

Getting old sucks...osteoarthritis for all my old injuries. If I'd known I was going to live this long, I'd have taken much better care of myself, especially now that medicare will be means-tested as soon as the .gov can figure how to screw us.

Hyarr

PS-due to an acute gout attack on Wednesday, I've been knocking back some indomethacin and prednisone with percocets (7.5mg). Aside from the truly weird dreams, I haven't felt so little pain in years. Though the dreams were really strange, they were kinda funny too...waking up was a drag.
