ALAMOGORDO, N.M. (AP) -- A New Mexico woman drove a van for more than 13 years without realizing there was marijuana hidden inside.

Melodie Peil told the Alamogordo Daily News ( Family discovers 13 pounds of pot - Alamogordo Daily News (http://bit.ly/1Ep572B) ) she bought a 1990 Chevrolet van at a local dealership in 2001 so she would have room to transport her daughter's children.

Until Friday, she had no idea that on trips to softball games and on vacations out of town she had been transporting 13 1/2 pounds of marijuana hidden in one of the vehicle's doors.

A family friend discovered the marijuana when he removed a door panel to repair a broken handle.

Inside a hole cut in the door were five bricks of marijuana covered in plastic wrap and foil.

Police say the marijuana is so old that it's worthless.

I had something similar happen. I bought a ford ranger and had it for almost 3 years when the a/c evaporator failed. Taped up in the dash above the glovebox was a gallon ziplock bag of weed.

I went to a Phish concert, with no ticket, planning to buy one in the parking lot. Took $300 cash with me. Couldn't find a ticket, so I hung out in the parking lot with the other ticketless idiots.

Somehow I returned home with $360 cash, a new hat, a "punching balloon", 1/2oz of killer buds and no memory of the evening.

Best concert ever.

Years of wildly swinging temperature and humidity variations will do a number on weed. It's like any other plant material, it will break down. If there was any moisture that got in there, mold everywhere. You guys can have it, I'm out.

That happened to us years ago. The stuff sat around until mold started growing on it, and you know what?......it was BETTER! :rofl:

On the tangent tip, my wife worked with a girl briefly named Crystal who was into...er, ah,....trafficking with her husband.

She told my wife she once accidentally threw out $30,000 in cash her husband had wrapped in aluminum foil and placed in the refrigerator freezer. The two of them left town shortly thereafter for Tenn. and were never seen or heard from again....
