I remember them. Bastiges would make us stay outside the school in the cold until 30 minutes before homeroom. That must be when I began to dislike authority.

I was one also. I never considered that there might be perks, other than getting to leave class early to take down the flag.

I was one briefly.
Then my 7th grade teacher heard an ear blistering, obscenity laden, tirade from yours truly and actually snatched the badge off my belt and booted me off the SSP.

I was one, too. In the 7th grade, IIRC. I did it because they gave us free passes to the movies on Saturdays. While all you serfs were lining up to pay to get in, those of us in the warrior class had more money for milk duds and popcorn.

:iagree: I was on the safety patrol in elementary school and on my school bus. I was one of the first on the bus in the morning and one of the last ones off in the afternoon.
Our "pay" was going to West Point Park outside of Lansdale Pa for a day at the end of the school year. I remember Gary Passmore losing his eye glasses on the Wild Mouse. They even shut the ride down for a bit to look for them.
I mentioned to him at our 20th HS reunion and he remembered it too. " My Dad beat my ass for losing my glasses. I didn't do it on purpose, I couldn't see without them"

You are probably too young to remember Funky Winkerbeam, back when the strip was actually funny.

Now, excuse me. It's time for my Geritol.
I did that in elementary school. I was always...bigger...than everyone else so I didn't get physically beaten. They rolled out the emotional stuff for me.
