:iagree: Yep... '62 or '63, I believe.
Saw one of the frames once.
Don't think they were street legal.
Must be worth BIG bucks today.

Would that be something to do with this chassis?

Yep, I knew. If I recall correctly they were 421SD's and had aluminum panels.

They were brought back from relative obscurity when this one popped up on ebay and everyone flipped out.

I wonder how much weight was actually saved. Seem to recall the bodies had holes as well.

Bet it was a handful to keep it in a straight line.

Its a drag car, it doesn't need to turn, and they were never intended to be driven on the street. The front end sheetmetal was aluminum. There were only a handful of them built. Back in the 60's, you had manufacturers using lightweight metal or acid dipping parts to make them lighter, using plastic windows, etc. Anything to lighten the car. The factory Darts had tiny A-100 van seats on sliders. Anything to gain an edge.

Back in the Poncho daze a friend had all sorts of aluminum OEM GM parts on his race car.....make that later 60's....

by early 90's a guy wanted to rent one of my garage slots....so in went his '79 Hurst Olds Cutlass.. he pirated ounces of aluminum off the Olds Diesel cars, bumpers, fenders, hoods, all sorts of crap , and painted it up to match the white and gold colors just fine......car sounded nasty, but all I did was watch, never actually saw it run at the strip....

Yeah I get that, but it's going to fold like cardboard when it hits the wall.
