Would be fun to join in sometime but it'll be tough with 2 little people running around home.

Beer? :island14:

We do have plenty of ice for the Rhum.. :datawiz:

You can leave your winter clothes there at Timyos place in the city so you don't have to pack them around.. I can assure you that you wont be needing them here. :D

Didja bring toilet paper with ya? or should I have Irish cut some banana leaves up for you into nice little squares.. :Jeff '79:

Oh, God!
I just HAD to look it up.
What with so many places that serve food, and no soap, no way would I eat in local restaurants. I bet that's how I almost died in Turkey.

I'd rather wash it good with soap and water... than just smear it around with some paper anyday.

Yep, I had a buddy TDY to Incirlik that would definitely agree with you.

As for the P-I, it's part of the "Adventures in Bathrooms". An example, a bathroom with soap and paper towels is not found often and I enjoy the hell out of it when I do. Most of the time, you'll find places don't spend money on that kind of luxury. So, sink with running water and you're good.

Also, I've eaten at some road side, dirty as hell stands in the Philippines and not had a problem. I've eaten at some nice/decent places in the US and have gotten a "bug". What is the deal? However, that's not to say I haven't gotten a "bug" in the P-I either.:lol:

Incirlik is where I was stationed. Eating out on the economy was like Russian roulette. The bunch of us from the office would go out to eat often. We wouldn't anything that wasn't boiling hot, or drink anything but tea, or liquor in sealed containers. Cokes were safe in sealed bottles, but not out of glasses or with ice.
Moslems use the same butt rinsing system as the PI, and they have that dam fatalistic attitude towards everything. So, soap and water handwashing was hit or miss. Somebody would almost always get sick. I happened to have my wife visiting when I got sick. If she hadn't found me in time, I would have died of dehydration. I was semiconcious, delirious, and too weak to help myself.
It took the ER 4 liters of RL to get me on my feet. My gut flora was altered for about a year.
No way would I knowingly put myself in that situation again.

I was at SM mall back in my early days and had to go to the CR one time, there they do not supply a bucket and dipper for washing, but they do have small packages of toilet paper for sale in a vending machine hanging on the wall by the door.

Of course I didn't notice that in my rush to dump a load... until after.

So here I am with my shorts down to my knees... hopping over to the wall to buy me some very much needed supplies... and only then realized I didn't have any coins.. :confused5:

I'm shouting out the door trying to get the attention of my wife for some coins, when other customers started coming in the door..

Mannnnnnnn..

What an embarrassing deal that was!

Wow, a true "Adventures in Bathrooms".:lol:

Also, I'm surprised there wasn't a CR attendant at SM. I usually give 'em five pesos or so since it's nice to go into a well stocked and clean CR.

If he feels up to it... I have it set up already for us to go fishing with a few of the local fishermen one night.. and of course we will need to bring along a few bottles of Rhum, and some Ice and a few other supplies. :datawiz:

Also might take a pump boat over to Virgin island one day for snorkeling and a cookout at a remote beach on the backside.

I will make sure to bring a camera.

I was over in Leyte during my early days here and drank water from a small creek that was flowing down a mountain side.

I thought it would be ok as I have often done that in the Hills of southern Ohio and Kentucky with no problems, but who knows what all was on up the hill.

It took a few days to kick in but when it did I felt like I was dying and had the symptoms that you described above.

I got sick one more time after drinking the Barangay water in Mandaue City, so swore off anything but bottled water after that.

But about a month later I drank what I thought was my water, and found out after it was the local water... but I didn't get sick..

I have been drinking it every since so am use to it now, some guys have cast iron guts, so it wouldn't bother them.. but my advice to anyone that is just going to be here a few weeks is not to try their luck as it will sure ruin a vacation.

Even the ice is made from the local water so probably not a good idea either.

I have often said that any of you here are all welcome to stay in our guest house anytime! if you want to head over.

Also I would love to have a Barn raising here one of these days.. :seasix:

We have plenty of room here, and even if we needed more room... I can always find some of those nice tents that Islamic Relief gave to a lot of the people here after the typhoon to borrow and set up on the beach out in the yard.

Rob is here now in the city and probably having a few drinks with my father in law Timyo.

He arrived about midnight but probably didn't get out of the terminal for awhile as he had to go through customs and immigration.

I haven't heard from him yet since he got here, but he will be heading here to our island on Sunday.

I am at the hotel tonight.

I had one beer and watching tv now. Thought I was sleepy but can't crash. I slept as much as I could on the way over and may have overdone it.

It is either 230am or 330am. I'm not sure since I can't get a cell signal here but wifi is working.

Oh well. Breakfast is at 6 and then heading to church in the morning along with some of the tourist things. Aggy and MC said they would be my tour guides.

I asked Irish to text MC awhile ago to make sure that you got in ok.

But to no surprise.. she has no load for the cell..

Here is a good tourist day for you.. :seasix:

Go to Mactan and see the Lapu Lapu monument (that's the old Chief that killed the Spanish explorer Magellan) and there is a good place next to it for a neat lunch, you can pick out the live sea foods that you want, and they will cook it for you there.

After that have them take you to the Chinese Temple tomorrow, kind of a neat thing to see.

Mr's A's is a nice restaurant for dinner, it's on the way up the mountain to Hilltop, great view of the city from up there and you can even see all the way over to the other side of Maktan Island from up there.

If you want to see some wild nightlife after that.. go to mango square, there are a few nightclubs there that really know how to party.. you might even run into Adam there..

Glad to hear that you made it ok!

See you in a few days..
