There is one at Tractor Supply for $100. I'm sure it is similar to HF. I will need to blast some parts for my SL350 resto. Most people are using walnut shell from what I am reading online. Is this cabinet a piece of crap or capable of doing decent and fast work?

You'll need some type of vacuum to remove the dust.

Plastic beads work good too for cleaning chrome without removing it :yesnod:

:iagree: Don't go with walnut shells, they leave oils behind. I'd go with beads or baking soda.

I've heard that the cheaper ones leave you having to replace the plexiglass more often than if it were a better material.

There is no material that you can see through that will last very long on a blast cabinet of any size. We have several of the big industrial types at work and have tried everything. The glass is a consumable just like the media is. Cost of doing business. :cert:

That's funny, I am in the middle of building my own cabinet now! Just too cheap to buy the size I wanted :yesnod:

I am going to try glass bead for doing some aluminum work, and switch to something more aggressive for rust removal on steel. I have some old auto glass I'm going to use for the window if it's big enough. If not, I'll just use plexi.

I'm thinking the best material to use would be transparent aluminum.

We used to use walnut shells when blasting the grain storage bins at kellogs when I was in high school....My Grandfather owned a blasting and painting company and that is where I worked in the summers. That was hard work but I don't remember anyone ever saying anything about the oils left behind but that may have been ok since it was all food based products. That is why we couldn't use the sand in those containers.

Quiet Scotty, that hasn't been invented yet.

I get this from my dad who was a painter and sandblaster for 40 years...couldn't paint right over something blasted with walnut shells. I helped him a few times but only with straight sand.

It is hard and hot work...those suits were terrible in the summer

Small table top model. :yesnod:
I got one at HF, free standing, big mofo.
I use glass beads or sand, depending on the piece I'm working on.
