I’m hoping you, or anyone reading, can help me with an issue with my dad’s ’95 K1500 4WD truck. First of all, when he changes direction, there is a loud “clunk” that feels like it is under the foot well. We have replaced ball joints and it is not brake related. The suspicion is that it is a torsion bar clunk. If that is the case, is it dangerous? Is it difficult to repair? Does in impact alignment and tire wear? The second issue is that someone has convinced my dad that the torsion bars are wound up too far. I disagree. The truck is a $x$ and sits level if you look at it. It is not squatted in the back or dipping in the front. I think he needs to leave the height and fix the torsion bar ends or whatever is clunking. I have not crawled under it to know the configuration of the suspension but my guess is you have spent as much time under one of these as you have inside one. What are your thoughts?

Torsion bars dont clunk...they are under so much strain, they cant kovevat all....none. if the keys are cranked up too far, you simply wont have any spring action...its hard in the cv axles though. Usually a clunk up front is in the bushings...maybe even the front diff bushings. Id be looking at the rearend...might feel like its up front...but a 10 bolt clunking is fsr more common.

What do the torsion arm bushings do? What is the effect of them failing?
The issue seems to be like this one...

Could be experiencing a trans mount issue, as you turn it might bind up the driveline a bit and make the trans hit the loose mount?
Never heard of a torsion arm bushing...the ends of the torsion bars are hexed, and one slides into the key in the rear crossmember, and one slides into the back of the front lover control arm, metal on metal...
I know of a torque arm bushing, in old F bodies...
