:iagree: Just contact Equifax and Experion directly and get one for free directly from the source.
By law, you are eligible for one per year free.
To hell with the middle man.

Yes, I have and my line of work is running and analyzing personal and commercial credit all day long.

I have credit Karma. The only downside is that it is a single score and it is Transunion which is typically a higher score because it uses a different system to determine the score. You can use it as a way to monitor changes etc but the number will mean little.

Just had my credit pulled last week when I got the truck. Their was a disclosure showing me what my score was. I'm guessing this is now a GA law... Anyway my score was good enough for them to take my word on my income, finance it under my biz with me as a PG, not put anything down, and finance a 3 year old truck at 2.1%. :)

Scores depend on what you are buying. Different weight is applied to different areas depending on whether it is a loan, a mortgage, a car, etc.

The actual numbers are "somewhat" meaningless. A 720 or a 750 etc is not as important and a 520 vs 720 although there are "break" points. The change in the numbers is all you can really monitor. Also, what you see is not the same as what a mortgage company sees.

I rely on the 2 tier system: I just keep charging stuff and if the purchase goes through, that's the good tier. If I get rejected, that's the not-so-good tier. I don't need no stinking' score!

As mentioned, that FTC website will give one a year for free, no scores. You stagger it every four months and you will always have access to a free report.
FICO scores pulled by insurance companies and most other lenders differ in the fact that they don't consider unpaid medical bills. Mortgage lenders use the strictest FICO which includes unpaid medical bills. I haven't had anyone come in with a credit karma report to compare to an actual FICO report but their website said it includes four scores. That seems odd since there are only three repositories, unless it's giving a non-FICO score like a vantage or Trucredit score. The free score on the Discover card is pretty close from what I have seen.

Even if you do get a score (we ordered both mine and Amanda's before buying the house) the bank uses a different one anyway. :slap:

It cost us points to jointly buy the house because her score was, I shit you not, 1 point too low on the low end. Her highest? Higher than mine. :kick:

I hate banks, and I hate "credit scores".

I see that every day. The scoring system is far from perfect and some days it drives me crazy.
In general, on conforming mortgages, 740 and higher with 25% equity is the cut off for A+ rates. As the scores drop, there is a change in the rate/fee structure for every 20 points. Once you are under 620, you are no longer eligible.
The difference between 679 and 680 is substantial.
If you image search loan level price adjustments, you'll see what I mean.

Where you buy the car has no bearing. Where the money comes from is everything. Currently my credit union offers 1.99 on new, and 2.24 on used. When we got G's Subaru, I got even better than my credit union's new car rate through Chase.

There's an asshole car salesman in my town who will run your credit app through about 40 lenders after you don't buy a car from him and leave. I've seen it happen many times when the customer would come to my lot next. That should be illegal.
